Hello everyone, I just bought my first chopper last week! I took apart the carb and cleaned it very good as well as changed the oil and spark plug. The chopper runs, it sputters sometimes, but it runs well. I dont know how fast it goes, maybe 30mph. Anyways, I want to upgrade the motor and want to know what kind will fit. I do not need a racing motor or anything like that, I would like to go faster. Maybe something that can get me up to 40-50mph. Bascially I want to rebuild this thing, but I dont want to spend a lot of money. I dont have to rebuild it because I am happy with it now, but if I can find some used motors or something for cheap I would love too. Or, if I could just put some performance parts on my engine to make it faster, that would probably be cheaper. I am not trying to sound like a tight wad, but I dont want to put a lot of money into this because at the moment it is fine. Also, my wife and I have a kid on the way and we are spending a lot of money.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Also, I felt something pop when I kick started it the other day and ever since then, it takes like 10 kick starts to actually start the motor because there is not any pressure in the kick start when I try and crank it.

This guy looks like he has the same frame as mine, so maybe I can get a motor around the same size. http://www.diygokarts.com/vb/showthread.php?t=17706

why not use a dirt bike motor like a real honda motor you can also just pop start it scince the kick start has that problem just put it in like 2nd or 3rd gear hold the clutch in and get it rolling and release the clutch

Who in their right mind wants to push start something every time they want to ride it?
Wrice4 I would check the dimensions on the motor in that link before purchasing it, looks like it may be a little tight.

Do you have any motors you would recommend that would be a fairly decent price? I dont mind buying a used one if it runs.

I bought a motor, hopefully I can make it fit. Looks about the same size. It is a brand new Box Stock Clone 6.5hp engine. I have read they are not a bad engine, any opinions?

thats not the motor you want on this thing that is not gonna make you go any faster and you will have to weld/modify the frame for the motor i would keep the regular motor on it if i were you

Well I went ahead and bought it anyways. The good thing is I know about this motor and a lot o people use them so there will always be something to upgrade for the motor.

That should work fine, a lot of us run 5 - 8 hp industrial engines and they work perfectly. Speed and torque all depends on gearing.

Could you give us the:
- # of teeth on clutch
- # of teeth on axle sprocket
- size of rear tire.

Glad you got your first chopper,

its not gonna have the power of the 110cc because it had gears

:toetap05: Do you happen to have any experience with the hardware you keep recommending? If people are spending their HARD, EARNED, CASH, based on just your opinion, you'd better be F**KING right. I know that if I was steered wrong by some one, and $$$$ signs were attached, there'd be H*LL to pay.:furious2:

A honda clone will be plenty powerfull, the new motor has basically 2 times the displacement. With a new air filter mod and exhaust header, it will be screaming down the way.

There will be a bit of modification to the frame, like a new motor plate and maybe the motor's gas tank removal. it will need a clutch of some sort.

The gearing will be the trick to get. But there might be just enough room for a jackshaft if needed.

Thank you all for the comments, if this will do just fine then I will keep it. I paid $125 with free shipping for it so from my research I didnt get that bad of a deal, I think. For all I know it just came with the engine. I am sorry, I am new to all of this. I have seen some pretty awesome clones on youtube with some upgrading that looks like it will be plenty of power if i get everything right.

So is it a vote to keep it and try it out or sell it and keep the engine I have on it now?
