Hate to say it but maybe there’s a group of (unbeknownst to you) DIYGK’ers on social media and in the Great White North just waiting to come together. Failbook (etc)? If not, form a group.

*Hate to say it because social media stole our thunder.

Forgot to add, put your location in your profile as well, like you see in Denny’s it says “Mayberry”, so people will know where you are. We get a lot of traffic in and out of this site some of which never register. Lots of visitors wander in from web search results and are just here to read up and may be looking for a community of the type you propose. We are very international… 🌏🌍

Make use of the DIYGK member map and you may find some Canadian members you can contact, send them a PM. Also, enable email notifications from DIYGK as it helps with the communication, like if someone replies to your thread or sends you a PM (private message) it will alert you via email.

We get about a dozen new members a week (or more).

Denny, yes that's my 1967 Camaro

part 1

, factory 327ci, factory 2-speed powerglide. Had 42,000 miles when i bought it off the original lady. Her husband has never driven the car. No one other than the dealer (for services) has driven the car. i've had it since 1995. i was muscle car shopping, nothing caught my eye, i like all makes. This came up on the net, in Toronto, i live 8 hours north, i called the lady, and said i was leaving early in the morning to go see it with a friend.
she married her childhood sweetheart, both met in kinder garden, never apart since, when they finished high school, they made a deal, she help put him through med school, and after he became a dr, she would never have to lift a finger again, they moved in close to the school, same apartment for 8-9 years, she worked several jobs, drop chit cars, ate very little, bought nothing except his school books, he walked past the local chevy dealership every day on his walk to school, after he graduated, he signed up with the hospital, did his internship, and became a dr. he still walked every day from the apartment to the hospital. one day, he stopped in at the dealership, and as he was walking in the front door, guys were pushing this camaro up the back ramp and into the two car showroom. he watched them push it in, and then asked about it, it was the madurna burnt burgandy color, deluxe interior, 14" rims, 210hp, very nice little car for back then, am radio. so he bought it, since all he did since he started school was think about school, read books, study, etc, he never ever cooked or did laundry, nothing, he only had to think about school, and he did just that, so in saying that, he never got his drivers license, he had to get the salesman to drive the camaro to their apartment, and walk back to the dealership, of course she loved the car, she charished it, she rented a garage space off two older people next door for about five years. she loved that car to death. so after about 5 years, they bought a home, moved in, and life moved on, there was a very wide open yard, little rickety garage for her to park in, and on they went. about another 5 years in, she started driving Mercedes Bends, but she would never give up her first new car, the Camaro. so years went by, and the garage got weak, out came the camaro, and down went the garage, a new garage pad was put down, and the Camaro sat outside for another bunch of years, it was started very often, and even driven for oil changes to the same dealership where only one guy , Tom , would be allowed to drive the Car and work on it, he was one of the guys who had just started working at the dealership when he helped push the Camaro into the showroom, he worked at the dealership till he retired. as the Camaro sat on the new pad, cedar hedges began growing around it, tall, thick, hedges. whenever anyone would ask her to sell the Camaro, she would get really angry, totally loosing her chit. well after many many years of sitting, and with the net coming out, she agreed to put in up on the net for one day, but only for about 6-7 hours (67). i was on my lunch, i was searching the net, as i finished searching a site, i hit refresh, and her ad came up, i had a total vibe hit me, and i knew that was my Camaro, i called her on my break, got directions, took a bunch of stuff from the dealership i worked at, dealer plate, new battery, tires/rims, gas, oil change kit, belts, hoses, gas, mechanics wire, tow ropes, jacks, and lots more, i hit the highway at 4am, called in sick at 7am, went to the lady's house to meet her, and no car, i called her cell, she was minutes away, said the camaro was behind the hedges, the tall, thick, hedges, still i seen no Camaro, so we sat and waited, when she arrived, she pointed at the tall, thick hedges, said it's just behind there, omg, so i had to go rent a chainsaw, cut into the hedges,6 feed deep, and the hedges were roughly 14 feet tall, cut across the front of the Camaro, the needles on the car were over two feet thick, it was in a cedar hedge needle caccoon, omg it was crazy, i shovelled off the needles, put it into neutral, pulled it forward, and loved it to death, i changed tires, oil change, gas, belts, hoses, checked the distributor, new battery, and it literally fired right up, we had already made the deal, 4,200.00,, and i drove it home from Toronto on an 8 hour drive, i was in love, it was my Camaro, coming home with me, to my house to be babied for the rest of it's life. when i got home, i had to hide it from my parents as i had bought a Jaguar 2 weeks earlier and my dad said, that's it, no more cars, no more toys, no bikes, no snowmachines, nothing, you have to save your money, so, i put it in my aunt's garage and covered it up, that was in late fall, that xmas, my dad had a heart attack and passed away, in teh spring i drove it home and put it into the garage, mom was ok with it, she thought it was cute.

part 2

so a couple years passed, it lived in the garage, i was busy paying my bills, and moms house bills, mortgage, utilities, paying off her loans that my dad had, food, life, etc. after a couple years, i dismantled it completely, full nut and bolt resto, i did the resto as if someone else was paying for it, it was a slow resto, i blasted every single part of the car with crushed wall nuts from the eastwood company, all new mounts, bushings, seals, etc, new exhaust, tires, rims, it needed quarters as husband hit them 5 billion times with the snowblower, and trunk floor, every part i bought came from the dealer, or Year One. no junk parts at all., all new quality parts, car went together and then it stopped, was a roller for a few years, then i put the interior into it again, and it sat, my sister had a baby, and i gave her the camaro the day sis said she was expecting, i barely drove it for many years, it lived in the 2.5 car garage all by itself. heated in winter. so last spring, i took the interior out, class out, wiring out, and i ordered a Year One full interior kit, all new glass, wiring, few other things, and it's been a slow process replacing everything, mom got sick for a while, my niece (owner of the car but still under my name) took nursing and i helped pay for the 4 years, taxes on moms house are 8,000.00 a year, big house, big yard, so it's slow, this will be a final build, and when it's done, i'm letting my niece drive it out of the garage, and then it's all hers, she will store it in her 2.5 car garage, heated also, all alone, with not even a broom in the garage, just the Camaro, and 4 hanging light bulbs. she will cherish it as i built it for her, it'll be a museum piece for her to have, yes she will drive it, she will show off the Toyota Tundra silver paint, (1D6) i had my painter add the front bumble bee stripe, suites it, i'll have it done very late in the summer or next year. had transmission fully rebuilt to handle 500hp in case the engine gets swapped some day, and engine only hand valve guides installed, and gaskets, nothing else, same small carb, same rams horn exhaust manifolds, i respected the Camaro for what it was , the story behind it, and the story ahead of it. it's my gift, my legacy to pass on to my niece, and on and on.. i could tell you lots more about the Camaro, lots of cool details, but that's for another time

when i brought the car home, it was valued at 6,000.00
just before i removed a screw from it, it was valued at 8,000.00
the appraiser i've known since i was 5
when i put it back together the first time, with it's 5 coats of silver, wet sanded in between, and 5 coats of clear, wet sanded in between
and all it's factory interior and glass, it was valued at 61,000.00
and when i put it back together for the second time, he's already guessing it'll be in the 66-67,000.00 range,
it's value means nothing to me, passing it on to my niece is the reward for me
it'll never be for sale, it'll be in the family for it's entire life.
i have still kept in touch with the lady who owned it, she's very old now,
and i've always had it insured with Silver Wheels Insurance since i brought it home.
it's a canadian collector car insurance company, great coverage, no issues, fast large payouts
it was 120.00 a year with full coverage, and slowly creeped up over all these years, i think last year it was 280.00 a year with full coverage and full coverage doesn't limit milage or mods or anything, just can't drive it to work at all unless certain reasons, and no one else can drive it unless a wife or husband.

That is a little more than I pay with Haggerty for my 60 Pontiac Bonneville convertible with a stated value of $60,000 and I get to keep the car if totaled.
