80 is pretty fast. The first time mine hit 65 I thought I was going crap my pants. Go faster more horsepower that part is easy. What I noticed is about 50 miles an hour the first thing you'll notice is one or both of your brand new tires starts to bounce like a basketball this is a major pain in the *** because nothing short of a racing tire is designed to go that fast. And of course balancing will help.......high speeds will come if you want it bad enough........just remember at 80 miles an your kart is moving at 117. sumthin FEET PER SECOND or .. one football field in 2.5 seconds. I'd skip front and rear disk brakes and go straight to parachutes. I'd get two one for you one for the kart. For example I'm personally experienced in crashing Karts. I swerved to miss a car that came out of nowhere hit a curb a 30 miles an hour (my kart little did I know had a ejection seat) .........ejected me and broke my left wrist. It's full of titanium pins and screws now and works great. They fixed it perfect for a mere 10,000 $. When I hit dirt I guess I was moving about 44 feet per sec. pretty slow compared to 117. BTW and I'm not kidding Number one on my bucket list is to hit 125.mph in my shifter kart I'm building now. So as far as I'm concerned a guy asking how he can make his kart do 80 is reasonable question.....and deserves the benefit of the doubt. Think big or be small. Lots of money = 80 mph. I hope you get there... in one piece..... there is nothing in the world that feels better than hitting high speeds in a kart. Sitting less than one inch off the pavement it gives you the true feeling of speed better than anything else I know.........good luck.

I reread some of the posts man you guys are brutal......he actually has a serious kart the foundation is there. The little Brigs animal is the stumbling block. What you need is a 100cc or 125cc shifter kart motor. 6 speed transmisson red line rpm about 17,000 no usable power till they hit 10,000 or so. Kits like that are around for 2 to 3 thousand. Used 1500 to 2000. Heck if you lived close to me I'd love to go riding with you. Serious shortage of crazy people here. Here's my little toy 02 Phantom Banshee has a Larry Killiam built Kt 100 Yamaha kart motor, Buller belt drive jackshaft with a Horstman DXL clutch, the pipe is a RLV L2 it also has mixture control from the steering wheel and to keep track of everything it's got a Digitron 52k max. I can watch CHT, EGT, RPM and MPH.........It all takes time .............and money.

The little Brigs animal is the stumbling block.

We're not brutal, we're trying to convince this poor guy that death isn't all it's cracked up to be. 80 mph is doable, but the kart had dam well better be in perfect order, the driver certainly does need some skills and experience, and the track (yes I said track) better be smooth as a baby's rearend).

Sure he's got a decent kart, but he's not yet very familiar with it, and still working the bugs out, like the chain coming off periodically.

If trying to save this guy's bacon makes us brutal, well- maybe we are.

And it's not a "little Briggs Animal", it's an 18hp Vanguard V-Twin. Cheers
