Increase speed from 40 to 80mph

How can I get my kart to do 80mph? Now it does 40, what is the best and or the easiest way to get it to do 80, Thanks.

Seriously? why do people ask such stupid questions... how about an airplane runway and a 20t axle sprocket? May take you a few hours to get up to speed but you'll hit it eventually. If your $14 lawn tires don't blow out, and your simple steering setup can keep you straight, and your brakes work, and you can see from your eyes tearing up...

How easy is it for you to find parts and how much do know about working on go-Karts?

Race karts top out anywhere from 50-60(6.5 clone class) to 160 (250cc superkart)

At those speeds A LOT of stuff needs to be tiptop or you WILL die. Going 80 on a yard kart is like 200+ in a car. Tires, wheel bearings, steering linkages, front end components, brakes, etc.

I want my kart to fly to the moon. what type of tires should I get? The lightness of my hollow skull and my 3.5 tecumseh should do the trick.

I guess if your serious about going 80mph just get a race kart chassis and a bike engine.

Going 80mph on a homemade Go-kart would take some serious precision engineering and I don't mean to be stereotypical but If you're new to welding, building an 80mph Go-kart will not be easy for you. My kart can hit 45mph (+/- a bit) and that runs on an unlimited 50cc ped engine. The frame is very strong, steering is solid and 45mph, 4 inches off the ground is very quick.

By all means try and build a fast kart, but make sure you have a decent bike engine, as the typical 13hp motor won't take you that fast. Also learn how to weld properly and you'll need to weld strong for that speed, and make sure you think all you plans through as this could be one seriously dangerous kart.

And also post some pics of what you've got/ what you plan to make.

get a race kart frame and strengthen it to hold a v8 then super charge it then u will go fast assuming u stay upright or staight

but on a seriouse note danj is right this is serious speed for a race kart
if u want that speed then get a buggy

V8 Supercharged on a homemade go-kart, lol. MZG, you say your kart does 40 MPH already and may I ask, is that not fast enough? Some people struggle to hit 15, so 40 is very respectable. Besides if your kart hits 40mph max, doubling that will be almost impossible with the same engine. You'll need a new engine, or you'll need to upgrade and tuned everything else perfectly to go faster, however 80 is pushing boundries a little to far I think.

Buy a small car I say and there's your starting point.

Wow. 80? Mine'll do 45 flat out and wide open, and that's a little hairy. If I did 80, they'd be picking me up with a Shop Vac and a squeegee!!!

i know of a vw polo that cant even reach 80mph, its a 1ltr so i dunno why you want to reach past 40, ideas like this are why so many people are against kart/ bike building

your never going to reach 40 if your in some 2 person yerf dog those things struggle to get to 30 if you want the potential of 80 and the ability to reach it in under one hour get a racing kart and motorcycle engine, plus please now your way around an engine, i've almost cried when people ask how to remove a gov, and then after you tell them how (even though theres 300 billion vids and a sticky showing you how) they ask where the block is . and please if your reaching above 40 quality steering, wheels, tires, BRAKES, welds, design, and ware a helmet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One quick thing guys, how do you remove the gov... .

In the nicest way possible, I suggest you dump the 80mph idea and stick to 40-50mph max. Good luck though.
