The key with the clutches, is getting the ones that they can be modified to engage separately at a certain point so they dont fight each other.

The clutches that have different springs that can be mixed and matched, weighted shoes and others things are the ones to get.
I can amagine building a simple test bed minibike or a standard gokart, with a tach to record the combo of springs to a desired "shift" point.....

With that being said...... one could theoretically have more than 2 clutches........
OH DEAR SHALL I SAY IT........ POTENTIALLY 3 OR MORE JACKSHAFTS.................. = MORE POWER.....
Theoretically........

On a kart, you have more real estate to work with so having a complex drive train is more-so possible.

I for one am definatly eager to see this....

Post you buy list, when your ready.

:lolgoku:"3 jack shafts" Who'da have thought that would ever actually be legitimate.

Speaking of adjustable clutches. Hilliard makes different springs for the "blaze and fury" and those clutches start at a reasonable 30 some bucks.

Another thought. Often mentioned is "How fast do you really want to go on a minibike? or Kart with your butt 3 inches off the ground? well

Hmmm. A Kart with a 2 speed could be a blast to gear it really high like 9 or 10:1 in first and then a normal 6:1 for 2nd. Why????

SMOKY BURNOUTS!!!:cornut:

A 3 speed clutch would be ridiculous! But cool, But why stop at 3 speeds, how bout 5 lol. Anyway I got a few tricks up my sleeve on how to make this work with unmodified generic centrifugal clutches. Ill post details and bill of materials after I build the kart and make it work. And post a vid of a smokey burnout lol. Also I may have access to digital speedos , gps senders, and tachs for testing.

How are you going to modify the "garter spring" variants, or are you just strictly using the C spring verity?
I could see drilling or grinding shoes to lighten to gain an earlier engagement... But that's about it off hand..

Wow that's exactly what me and fireman Jim were talking about for my thunder cart. Not for burnouts but massive speed. I've got my fingers crossed for you. Hope it works

So i got some parts and the hard part of the deal out of the way. My stepdad took the 1.5in sprocket and cut it out on a wire edm machine. It fits the bearing perfect, nice press fit with built in keyway. The od of the one way bearings is 40mm. Two of them will support the sprocket. Now to make the 17mm id fit a 5/8 shaft. I started building the frame too, but its too cold and snowy to continue so another time, more pics to come. Also, the two C's are the material removed from the sprocket.

Well I should probably start a build thread but here is the start of the frame. And where the jackshaft shall be.

The use of EDM machine is already out of most peoples budget :roflol:
Thats cool though, the making of a quality build!
Is there any reason why it couldn't be bored out on a lathe?
I realize it would be difficult to put an "integral" key in there but I think something could be made to work.

Is that a 10hp engine but any chance? How tall is it?

It is 4.7hp but I am probably selling it as it is worth alot of money. 5hp briggs will most likely be the powerplant.

And yes a lathe is possible , but the keyway would be a huge stepdown, but smoke em if you got'em . I said the bearing needed to fit the sprocket and that is what i got, no complaints.

Sell it? Wha? No rollin coal???
If I had the $$$, Id be all over a diesel like stink on poop... :D

I think a tool holder could be built, and be used similar to a broach.
Might take a while, but I believe it would work well for a small keyway.

Did you get any additional info about the bearing from the manufacturer? I've seen some with max RPM ratings or max torque ratings?
