Hello, I am trying to re-create a fairbanks style two speed jackshaft using two regular max torque clutches for use on a go kart i am building. The only thing preventing me from doing this is the overrunning clutch. I need to find a "one way" sprocket that fits on a standard keyed 5/8 or 3/4 shaft. I am going insane researching everyday to find something that will work that
A. Does not need to be custom manufactured for a few hundred dollars

B. Not just a NOS two speed for a few hundred dollars

I cannot find a sprag bearing that will work because they are all metric. One of the solutions I found is a needle bearing that is one way, but I do not have a lathe to make it work, or trust the press fit.

Anybody have any ideas? I refuse to except that such a simple device does not exist. I can buy a comet tav ripoff for $75 but whats the fun in that? Also the motor will be a 5hp briggs and stratton flathead. Maybe I am just blind and cannot find it? Any help would be appreciated.

I can point you to a bunch of info, but haven't found what I was looking for yet. Would love a freewheel bearing with sprocket already attached or freewheel bearing / hub that I could put a sprocket on (that is for #40 or #41 chain)

I'm also considering putting the sprag / freewheel / overrun .... on the axle.

That was the one I found out in the last two speed clutch topic...
He still needs the spragg bearing to engage the second clutch...
They're not cheap...
You might be able to contact a local bearing supplier to see if they can get one... Or a sample from a source that is a manufacture.

I kinda gave up on this for now, but there is also the Comet 2 speed setup which is a little different and I have seen parts for sale online. The jackshaft kit is $150.

but now I forgot how each setup works. Not sure if the overrun is included here.

You might have better luck here than me.
It's a list of manufacturers. Most are probably expensive.

Best of luck. I hope this works! If it does, I may never finish my project.
Also, if you make an extra one, I know a buyer!!!

That vxb bearing is a good deal...
You could send that to a machine shop and get them to do it. Talk to them and see if they'll do a quick cash job... That's a reamer fit..they'll most likely have that no prob.

If they don't want to setup for the keyway.. Don't worry That'll take you a couple of minutes with a file/hacksaw blade to fit that....
I'm thinking I want to do that...

Well , if i may chime in :

http://fj.b5z.net/i/u/2162054/i/2_Speed_7451_Off_Road_Manual.jpg

This is a 2 speed automatic gearbox used on RC cars ( i have used one on a 26cc with 4 HP ) , and thats the schematic of it .

All i can really tell you is that it had an adjustable shiftpoint , and you can play around the gear ratios all you want .

Now , idk if this design can be scaled up , but on small RC cars it works just as you expect it to... Revs to to the shiftpoint , revs drop and you are in second gear .

Thanks for the diagram. I am using something similar, one dual sprocket clutch costs more that two whole ones and my motor has a 1in shaft so I am doing this (excuse my MSpaint skillz)
