Lastnight I picked up an old vertical shaft engine in an out building at an old abandoned farm. It is a Power Products Corporation engine, bought out by Tecumseh in 1956 (I did some research before I posted this). I got some pictures of the engine and the Model and Type numbers. Here they are. Model: V47 Type: F504A

This is what the engine looked like when I brought it home

This is the carb

This is what looks to be the air filter, just some tin foil like material

This is the side view

This is what looks to be the flywheel, funny it don't have any fins

And this is the airvane governor setup, very simple

I don't know if you can see it or not, but the back of what I think is the flywheel has "Fairbanks Morse" embossed on it. I know Fairbanks Morse made engines, but this is a Power Products Corp. engine. Did someone do some backyard mechanics on this engine?

thats certainly a 2 stroke. you can get it to run sideways easily.

if that was mine, and i had a sandblaster, and gasket material, engine enamel, and POR15 marine clean, that thing would be brand new.

Yeah I saw that, but I figure I can scare up a few more motors like this one to fix it. Or maybe I might ge the right stuff together and try welding those cracks up. It is no longer seized, it was but I just got it unseized after worked with it a little. Yeah Blue, it I can get a good block of fix this one, I am going to restore it. I figure it looks cool, not powerful enough for a kart, but cool. It isn't a total loss because I got it for nothing, and the main reason I grabbed it is because the round tank that was on it is now on my minibike, and the carb looks like it might be nice for an old 3hp briggs so I can have a frame mounted tank. Thanks for the info Russ.

Um, I haven't looked too closely at the carb, but I will take a look again soon. The peice that mounts to the block looks similar to a tilloston. Those are good carbs aren't they?

too bad tillotson carb's arent found on general use engines anymore... thanks to EPA, the economy, and mostly just because its cheaper to make crappy carbs.

i saw a youtube video of a tilly on a 5hp briggs, and when he pressed the throttle the engine accelerated SO fast he threw the rod!

The carb doesn's say Tilloston on it, but it had these numbers on the float bowl, so I figured that they might tell you something, the number are: MT42A Can anyone ID these, or know if it is a Tilly or not?
