I'm sure many, if not all at some point, contemplated duel engines. Yesterday I flipped my jack shaft gears. My clutch is a 12 tooth, gear in is 18, out is 12 and sprocket is a 60 tooth. I knew that flipping it to 12 in and 18 out I would lower my ratio and pick up on my overall speed. Took it for the test run and it was WAY to fast for the kart. Did think I was going to get it back in one piece! Needless to say, IT WAS FRIGG'N AWESOME!!! Thought I was going to pinch a hole in the seat with my butt cheeks. On the down side, I could barely make it up my drive way. Also something I was expecting.
Now my theory- if I were to run duel engines with jack shafts with different gear ratios, wouldn't the higher ratio jack shaft setup provide the launch and the lower gear on the second engine to provide the top end speed.
On my kart I have a non modified predator. If two non mods were used, the governor would kick in on the launch side once max RPMs were reached. I'm assuming this wouldn't cause any drag per sa at faster speeds.
Am I delusional or is this phesable?

... theoretically yes... if the clutch (lower geared one) didn't lock into place... so IMO... good idea... but don't think it'll work.

... and I've "thought" of the idea aswell... cept the second engine woulda run a TC.

I think u gotta gear them exactly the same just gear it how u have it and u will be running 13 HP and shouldn't have any problems......what I got from what your saying it you wanna use the engines as if they were gears you reach max then kick in the other engine.....it make more since to run them in sesession and just get the 13 HP instead 6.5 all the way

Yes, basically. Almost as if the unit as a whole would work as a 2 speed transmission. One motor driving 1st gear and one drive 2nd. I think the biggest issue would be getting the "1st gear clutch" to disengage when second kicks in. If the clutch were to just slip at its max rpm range then it would theoretically be disengaging. However, one would probable be going through 1st gear clutches like crazy.

Like I had said though, this is purely hypothetical. I'm not trying to plan this build, just one of the many wild ideas that I ponder usually while I'm on my throne having alone time.

Well I guess on one part of the jackshaft(I'd assume you would use one) could have a overrunning clutch set for a certain speed, then it would disengage and alow the other motor to power over(kinda like a two speed jackshaft but having two motors instead).
Running like this seams like you would have to sync the motors like how a multi carb setup is like on a hotrod, first one then gradually the other...
