Husqvarna help!

Well my shop teacher heard i can fix engines. so he brought me his old Husqvana weed eater. he said it sat outside for 3 years.

ok so first i put new fuel in. and tried to crank it. well it fires up runs at idle a while then dies. if you hold the throttle down and crank it it fires up revves up high then just dies. its like when ever i try to rev it when its idleing it just bogs down and dies.

so then i tried no air filter. same result.

poked the jets out. same result.

checked the diaphragm. well it had a tear in it but it wasnt that big so i went on.

blew through the jets and carb. same result.

by the way when i was working on it the primmer bulb would barely pull gas through the lines but when i revesed the lines it pulled gas fine. where they on wrong?(or maybe the right way?)

but even after doing that still ran the same.

so i checked the spark plug. it was still good. but the boot had water in it. i cleaned that but no change.




im thinking its that diaphragm. but could that really cause it to run SO bad?

what do you all think? its two stroke by the way.

anyone? its kinda urgent. i want to possibly fix it for him before i leave school friday. and tomorrow the only day i could work on it do to we dont go to shop on fridays.

I'd start by replacing diaphragm and swapping the fuel lines back the way they were.

checked the diaphragm. well it had a tear in it but it wasnt that big so i went on.

that **** is your fuel pump man...via crankcase pulses etc. Anyway that **** wont run with rips. Well it will run with the choke on at idle or if you keep priming it.

edit: also carbs probably a walbro. You can buy kits to rebuild them. Maybe $20-30. Come in a little plastic bag. If its zama or something else then probably the same but iduno

oh. that would explain it. when i prime it and start it it will run for a while at idle cause i primed it.

Edit: also the fuel lines are on the right way. the other way it wont pick up any fuel

Look on ebay or baileys.com or other online parts catalog for carburetor parts. You can either get a new diaphragm or a new carburetor, your choice depending on how much the parts cost. It won't run at all with a torn diaphragm.

well guys another husqvarna with a problem.

This time its a huge chain saw. He said he filled it up the other day and said when he ran it it ran fine for about 4min. then it bogs down and dies. and when ever he restarts it it runs fine for 4min again then bogs again.

But the weird thing is in the few short times he ran it. it has almost gone through a complete tank of fuel.

Could there be afuel leak?

have you checked all the hoses coming off the gas tank? my weedwacker had a problem similar to this but I cant remember ATM how we fixed it. and I hate to ask this, but he mixed the fuel correctly right? just making sure

Clean the carb? Plug?
My honda engine did something kinda similar... got a new plug that seemed to help. Dont know if that couold be the problem or not...

I had a chainsaw that sat for years and i decided to get it running. It would run but idle then die i had to give is constant bit of throttle i thought it was cold blooded, but it did this after it was warm also. I replaced the plug And it worked great. I would get a diaphram and a plug.

I talked to my dad about the weedeater and he said awe just had to replace the plug and clean the air filter...same as you jake

Well as it turns out the new diaphragm did nothing. but does the gasket go on top or below the diaphragm?

And it will stay running if its primed constantly.

Then he said well did you check the fuel filter. and i was like"you didnt tell me it had a fuel filter.." and this is no small filter. its full size. like pocket bike engine size.

Now could a bad/clogged filter be whats causing it not to stay running and not pick up fuel on its own?

Can you bypass the primer bulb and it still run? like tank straight to carb? it has a choke.

And if it is the fuel filter why would it be able to prime and not run?

also when it ran while primed it smoked ALOT.

for shirt cakes its not rocket science just check everything from fuel filter to exhaust.
