I was going to be working on my kart alot this winter to convert it to live axle and some other upgrades, as a found a way to get access to a welder. Then it dawned on me, am I getting to old for this? Im 16, I guess I should be doing normal 16 year old stuff. I don't know. I'm a junior in high school, just how much longer will I be able to use the thing. I don't know. I'll just work on it now and whatever happens later happens.

Anyway, how old are the people on this site? I know there are alot of younger people. When is the age when it's not socially acceptable to want to build/ride a go kart around?

Never too old, I'm 26 and it's something to tinker with, I buy them broke, fix them, ride them and sell them. So it's a hobby / making money thing, at least that's how I justify it to the wife. You're never get too old for toys the toys just get bigger.

I'm 32 and just starting, don't sweat it. If you spend all your life wondering if you're too old, too young or too cool look at all the things you're going to miss out on. if it makes you happy then giv'r

Im 16. The only thing that will stop me is death.

My granddad is 64 and still rides his karts.

He is retired now so he has all the time in the world to work on his stuff.

He can do just about as much as any younger person can.

Thanks. I just needed some re-assurance. I'll start a project thread this winter when I finally get around to upgrading this thing. I figure if and when I grow out of it, I'll just sell it.

I, too, am 16 and a junior. I'm currently building my kart in school in our shop.

I understand your sentiment. I got into karting when I was 14. By the time I got to be 17 with my own car, I kind of fell out of love with my (admittedly crummy) go kart and cushman 3 wheeler. I still enjoyed riding, and would go to the local slick track once in awhile.

Now that I'm in my 40s, I find my interest in karts rekindled in part by nephews and nieces' enjoyment. I like karting a lot, and quadding too. Don't anyone dare go saying I'm too old! :furious2: LOL

There's an old joke about mopeds and _____ that comes to mind. :devil2:

People might tease you for riding a kart, but usually they see how much fun you're having and want to ride it too. :drool5:

The only thing getting older means for many of us is more access to money.

Quite a few of our customers 1/3 are 20+ year olds buying parts for their own karts and have no children.

I'm 37 and having a blast, both with my own kart, and my kids'. I think it's terrific that there are some younger folks like yourself out there learning, wrenching, having fun, and generally NOT being useless couch potatoes that have to be plugged into something electronic 24/7 in order to stay entertained. Cheers!
