I installed my Torque-a-verter TAV2 on a Robin EX21 engine. I noticed the outert hub on the crank shaft only slides on a little less than a 1/2 inch. I could machine it down .70 and it would give me exactly 1/2 inch if I needed. How much is good or not good? This part is the part http://www.mfgsupply.com/m/c/200376A....html?id=GbGX4mTw that only slides on less than 1/2 inch.
How much keyway do I need?

I think mine slides on just a little ways too. I haven't had any problems with it.

The 4 spline post on my TAV-2-30 only slides on just a bit as-well and haven't had any trouble.
Thanks guys. How much is a BIT??? 1/2" or less? 3/4" would make me happy, but thats not going to happen. I just looked up the specs on a Tecumseh 6HP OHH60-71216E and the shaft is 2 9/16. The shaft I have is measuring at 2 6/16. Thats 1/4" shorter....
