Whys that because he removed his governar. I talk to my local kart shop today and alot of guys are running with these motor first thing they are doing is completely removing all the piece to it and are not running into any problem.have any one heard of problems with these motors when removing the governar.

theres been plenty of things that have happened to them. i go on another kart forum (for racing) and i hear some bad stories of these. the magnet is held on with glue, they are made with some crap metal. just be careful. please. i dont wana bring up the story how my kart racing buddy died...

I won't admit that they won't "blow". But I will say at 5000RPM or so, when the coil flies out (yes... they are held on my glue and crap) and they're like a car impacting you at 60...

Also, the flywheels do explode, with the same amount of force of a gernade... Especially the clones.

Your flywheel is gonna 'splode...Be careful with stock clone flywheels. put a big peice of14 guage steel behind your head and you'll be safe

Eh... 26lb springs, chrome moly push rods, SS valves and retainers + keepers, 1.2:1 ratio rocker arms, GX160 head, flat top piston... 8 degrees advance flywheel key... 92 jet..

Yes you do. I guess in go kart scenerious you could use a scatter shield. But in drag racing I have a thick aluminum back board which you can see it has a Summit racing sticker. Inline with any spinning parts. I've seen clutch's and flywheels fling off before at 8000 RPM it Just goes straight up say....300 feet.

I'd better catch it... I can't stand spending another $150 on a billet flywheel

Anywho... I'm getting an Animal flywheel and coil today. The seller said it fit onto a 5HP crank, (and since the 3HP flywheel fits on the 5HP crank, so can it), and it's 6 1/2" in diameter. Same as the stock one. Hopefully it'll fit and run without and problems...

Billet flywheel + Coil = $50. What a deal... what a deal...

Nice motors! Mine'll never look like that because:

1) My wallet is 1"x1"...
2) I always buy used/parted out things...
3) I'm messy :D
Oh, and I hate paying people to bore n' stuff.

14 sounds pretty thin, I would go with something more along the lines of a 1/4" plate around 6 inches wide and wrapped around the engein so the stuff can only go down.

i make frequent trips to the junkyard out here. also, every once in a while, i put in an ad in the paper for 3 days saying "Wanted: Go Kart, Mini Bike, Lawn Mower parts". It's free for 3 days if it's a wanted ad.

Wow, how much we have in common with others on the forum!

1) My wallet is about 3X4 and generally never has any cash in it...:arf:
2) I try to do the same, for the most part, unless it's gotta be something that NEEDS to be absolutely new.
3) I try not to be, but can't help it... :D
I don't like to pay people do do anything either, I'd rather do it myself.

Junkyards are great places to find stuff!

Yeah, but we're like a supercivil place... no junkyards. Not even a "downtown". :(

I'm gonna find out where they dump our trash! Who knows? Back then (in Dec. 06) I read that a guy found 2 perfectly working karts in the dump!

You still having problems with it revving right away? If the carb is just hooked up to a fuel line and nothing else, fab up some sort of throttle return spring to hold the butterfly closed.
One other thought... I know this is the harbor freight chinese engine but it being a copy of the gx200 and all... I work at a go kart track and I work on the hondas all day, and can't help but notice how terribly soft the valvesprings are. I've heard that the honda gx engines are used in some kart racing, there should be stiffer valvesprings out there if you know whare to find 'em. You will probably need them to get the revs that that carb and header will want to deliver. you should be safe at 6000.

Oh yeah, I am new here, just posted in the welcome section a minute ago. Great site!

6000? Haha, notice how I have 26lb springs? That'll do fine at 8,000-9,000. At 5300RPM the Clone's valve springs start floating.
