update: timing looks good, i tested compression and i got 145 cold and 130 psi hot. any ideas?

There are no timing marks because the timing is non adjustable. I would do a compression test or leak down test wet and dry and compare numbers. You will probably find you may have to pull the head because the valves or guides are worn out. If they are you can bet the cylinder, piston and rings are too. Compression test numbers should be around 120. Higher or lower are a sign something is not right. A flat cam is another possibility.

wdym wet/ dry test. no oil?

About 1/2 teaspoon of oil down the cylinder and then do a compression test. That’s a wet test.

Yes, because if it goes up by 10% that may mean you have a problem.

did it and it passed. i think i found the actual issue. the throttle was worn out and leaking air in
