Out of desperation l bought a set of taps from HF cuz i needed a 10 x 1.25 metricated tap for banjo bolts in my distribution block. After fighting fit problems for a coupla of attempts, l statred checking things.

Apparantly there is no quality control with these clowns.
This is their idea of a 10mm tap.

Does it say 10 1.25 on it? In my situation, I need to drive past 4 auto parts stores, Lowe's and Tractor Supply to get to Hobo Fright.
I hope you didn't wipe out the original threads.

I bought a set of taps and dies from them a while back. Junk, junk and more junk. A quality set is worth every cent. The HF ones were off super bad. Worked fine through process, but once I put a bolt in the newly tapped piece, bolt was loose and wobbly.

I buy some of their junk to throw in the pickup or in the buggy, for those situations where a few tools of any kind would be an event saver. The kind that get lost, borrowed and never returned, stolen, rained on or whatever, and ya don't really care, cuz its probably time to replace the junk anyhow!
I have my good tools in the shop where I like them to stay. So I end up with two of everything.

What most don’t realize is that most of the China stuff is across the board, not just in Hazard Fraught. Same China junk is sold everywhere, just with different labels. The thing with the big box stores like Lowe’s, Home Despot, etc, they just charge more for the same crap (with a few exceptions on whether it is crap or not). It’s not a turd world sweatshop anymore, unless it’s Pakistan and the like.

For quality you really do have to go domestic. 🇺🇸

HD "HDX" brand tools have treated me well. Mostly screwdrivers, but ratchets are Snap-On only for me. Husky wrenches have done me well and Craftsmen. Craftsmen ratchets are far less superior these days compared to Snap-On. If it is an everyday tool, and you are looking for something reliable, American steel is the only reliable option. (y)

Except when you want a good tap that performs as it should. Honestly though I am a bit biased. Not too long ago I was gifted a " Snap On " tap and die set, SAE & Metric.
I doubt that I could have afforded it new. The few I have used cut perfectly.

I honestly can't believe this befell you, Master Hack, of all people. Couldn't you "sense" or "feel" the tap was wrong before you used it? 🫢

😮😅😊😇

Furthermore, in this late Empire stage, everything (97%) is garbage. Everyone knows it and expects the worst.

Well, maybe you are expecting too much? There was a time however….
Lately, I do shyt regularly that I would have fired someone for.
My calibrated eyeballs need recalibrating, but "they" say nothing can be done to fix the deficiencies.
Why the hell should I doubt the laser etched ID on the tap? Oh! Wait! it is HF after all.
I really hate buying stuff like this online. I like to see the stuff first.
The HF taps looked good!

When the guy comes to your workplace with a truck full of top quality tools and I can walk out there and say "I need this" and he puts it on my tab, it's a convenient option. Of course, at $100 a week, every week, most accounts dont pay off until you retire.
