Three years ago I bought my Granddaughter, then 4, an electric go kart. I modified the throttle and brake pedals so she could reach them and started her on her way. She is now 7 and the pedals have been moved to their original position and she wants more. she weighs about 50 pounds and the kart weighs in around 75 pounds with battery and electric motor . It has a 500 watt 36 volt motor in it now and will go approx. 20 mph. on the normal setting. Over the last winter and summer it has burned up the electric controller and the battery is getting old and will need a new charger. To replace these three items will cost about the same as a gas motor would cost. I was wondering if anybody out there had converted a Honda Minimoto electric kart to gas and what problems and or hints they might have. What size motor are we looking for to move this 125? pounds about 25-30 mph Thanks from Papa and Danni.:auto:

A lot depends on what kind of room you have to work with. To move that kind of weight at those speeds wouldn't take anything monstrous so you could probably get by with a small motor. Maybe something around 3-5 hp?

Danni and papa's project

I was kind of thinking that I would want to change the rear axle to a live? axle One that spins both wheels right? The one on it now has brakes to one wheel and power to the other, so tiny chain will go down the road with the electric motor and battery. We take it to the school parking lot to ride so we dont have an infinite area to play but enough to get it in trouble so speeds of 30 mph or just slightly under is what Papa is looking for. I was hoping somebody else had tried this project and knew it could be done with out a ton of money and lots of labor.. I only Paid $250 for the kart new down from $400. But new battery is one hundred new controller is seventy five and charger is another sixty five. I'm thinking that I can find a motor small enough and tuff enough to do the job for about the same money and wont have to charge it every 2 hours
thanks Danni and Papa:auto:
