I picked up a gx240 recentlly that I plan to put on a gokart. While attempting to install this Tav2 torque converter, I noticed 2 issues.
1) I have seen installs where you need to cut the top of the rear oil plug off so that the backplate has the necessary clearance, but that still does not give me enough clearance. It seems like I will either need to do some grinding on the back of the backplate or cut about an 1/8" or so off the top of the oil inlet. Have others had similar issues with this engine and converter? I am assuming the best approach here is to grind the backplate to get the needed clearance.
2) I have about 2" of the 1" diameter shaft to work with. I have not installed the unit yet due to the above issue but the way I see it, after I put the back of the driver plate on, I will have about .5" at most of shaft left. Is that enough length for the front of the driver unit? It seems like less than half of the front driver unit will actually be on the shaft. Can this work or do I need a longer shaft?
I have attached a few pics to help get an idea of what my setup looks like. I am already planning on extending the keyway but wondering if others have ran into these issues and how they handled them.
