Welcome to the forum. The Ody FL250 is a cool kart. There are loads of build threads on the forum, most of them by a member called Bighead. Do a search and a bit of reading and you will definately find something

I'm pretty sure you could find a replacement starter if you looked.

Ripping the engine out of an Ody & replacing it with a copy of a Honda engine would be sacrilege on so many levels...

PM Bighead, he probably has a few laying around...

Man... I had an old 250 Honda Oddysey. But mine did not have a starter. It was pull start... no electric. But Im no expert on them so it very well may have had an electric starter that was not working. It has been a long time ago. But I agree with everyone else... don't replace the engine. Keep the original engine for so many reasons. All of this being my opinion or course so good luck either way you go.

If you must change the engine, do so with as little mods as possible; don't cut into the original frame, add to it so it can be easily removed later. Then, in your own time, rebuild the original engine & refit it

Can I put a Mitsubishi colt motor in a 1950s Jaguar

Hell no

If u can't find a starter u may be better selling it and buying a different working cart

If u do do an engine swap then at least use a bike engine or better a snow mobile engine

If u just want a small engines kart then the sort of working kart u are looking for is worth far less than a dead ody

These are consided sorta historic as they were the first mass produced off road kart
And are still consided good performers

What engine do you recommend using
I prefer something simple because I'm new at this
The most I've done so far is an engine swap of a yerf dog 3203

What ever u can find

Something of similar displacement and 2 stroke
Or something a little larger in 4 stroke

Nothing is going to be simple
It will require welding new mounts on and working out how things go on

A bike or snow mobile will be easiest in the sense the ody is setup for that kind of mounting
But an industrial engine is an all in one package

Why so u not want to fix the ody engine?
They are two stroke
There's tin openers that are more complex than those engines

:iagree:
Dont botch that oddy up.

That predator would work with the proper mounts. Im thinking you will also need to get a Comet 40 TC or a clone TC....

I do not thing any engine smaller than a 9HP is going to do very well on a FL250. They are biggish heavier karts that need more power than what you are suggesting to put in

So just bought the 420cc predator and comet 40 TC
Question is does it need a Sprocket like the yerf dog 3203 with a chain to get it moving
or will it run fine without one?
