Don't really know what I'm doing but planning to build a small little kart with a snow blower that the auger broke on.

The engine is from a craftsman (model number 536.885213) snow thrower from early 2000. Its a 5.0hp Tecumseh 2stroke, that runs pretty good. After pulling it from the garage, I primed it 10 times and it started on the first pull. Than began pulling it out of the box that held it in.

Plan is to use 1x1 and gusseting all the corners. I want to build this thing as cheap as possible the first time around and once I get the feel for how these work ill work my way up. Don't really know how long it will take because I work full time and have school full time as well. Thanks for watching and give some feedback!

Question. In this engine, the shaft steps downs to 5/8in. On these centrifigal clutches, do they need to be recessed so far on the shaft. There is only 5/8" of the shaft exposed. Is that enough, that the bolt will take up the rest of the shaft?

You might have to get a keyway cut in the rest of the shaft. I doubt whether a cent clutch will fit onto only 5/8" shaft length, but maybe one of the more experienced guys can correct me if I am wrong

Post the diameter of the rest of the shaft. If it is 1", then a clutch is going to be a bit expensive. You could also have the shaft turned down by a machinist, but that entails opening the engine and taking the crank out

well, ill have to look into it. If i find out that it will have to be machined, im just going to get a different engine. Harborfreight has on for 100 thats a 6.5hp.

I'm trying to gather a parts list for the rear end of the kart.

Tractor Supply
Pillow blocks (2)
Centrifugal clutch(they have #35 and #41 chain)
Drive sprocket (not sure on teeth count)
Wheels/Hubs (2)
Collar clamps
Chain

Ebay
Mechanical caliper and matching rotor
Rear shaft (40in, 1in shaft)

Does that seem like everything for the rear.

you can get those engines on mowers aswel with a 7/8th shaft if thats of any use

i have a couple

you could put a keyed sprocket on the crankshaft and run a chain to a jackshaft with a clutch on it. just a thought

that's a great Idea. I was thinking and searching about that and it seems to be good. I think that Im going to just make two carts and use both engines.

Just ordered the axle, brake rotor, engine plate, and some cheap pedals.

Will get the clutch, sprocket, pillow blocks, some key material,and look at tires and wheels at tractorsupply on Friday.
