here's another idea: if you really can't find work run a pennysaver/classified ad, "student does yardwork" me and friends did this in high school, we charged 12/hr per person, this was good $ then, still is, might even charge 15$/hr these days, anyway grab dad's weedeater, mower, rake, all that good stuff, and go out and make some $-- spring and summer are almost here, that's when there's money to be made, when i did it me and one friend i usually worked with were working 10 hr days, 120$ cash in hand each every night, we had killer summers! weedeating in star thistle over our heads, we were unstoppable, i had to do a similar thing a couple years ago when i couldn't find work, but i was bidding jobs, you make more that way, but always one time gigs, hourly customers keep calling you back, might even schedule you to come by regularly

That is what i all ready do i have a weed eater mower ect i landscape i also buy fix/fix sell karts (its money )

Yeah....that was my point.....we all gotta do what we have to to make money......

But landscape and kart flipping may put a little change in your pockets.....but it's not a career move....employers want to see a work history.....and for that....it's better to have a work history flipping burgers than making twice as much as an entrepreneur......

I've been on both sides of the street....and not having a work history is killing me right now......I had one when I was younger.....but the money was good in construction....and it wasn't out of the ordinary to bounce around from employee to contractor.....and from job to job....to chase down the big money....

So.....Cameron....it's a brave new world....but your best bet is to establish a work history somewhere....because....theman is most likey going to cover his bets by hiring the guy that has proven himself reliable to show up and stick around awhile......and your competition for those jobs is going to have that.....

Stores these days and with today's tech do not do in store apps.

Maybe so, but just because it's not required doesn't mean it's not a good idea.

Every single job I've gotten I applied to in person -- and I can guarantee you I've filled out more online applications than anything else.

People online are full of sh*t. You know that a huge portion of online applications are going to be embellished garbage, likely not even written by the applicant. But the employers have no way to know that until they call people in for interviews and Shaggy Doo rolls up on his skateboard 20 minutes late hung over and reeking of pot.

If nothing else, going in there in person shows them that you're a somewhat normal person that has at least basic communication skills -- something they have no way of knowing from applications. And realistically, that's 99% of what entry level jobs actually require.

I have worked before with my father but it was only at my dads work for about 3 to 5 months before he got laid off (because of the divorce and the caniving things my mom said )when he got laid off so did i .I detailed 12 cars every sat and sunday for the driving school i filled out all the papers to get a paycheck (But i do not consider it a jb because i was only in the early stage of work ) i do not think you can put that down as a work history

Of course you can; if you provided a regular service & received a monetary payment, THAT'S WORK! When I was in high school, I worked for McDonalds; never more than two or three 4 hour shifts a week, it's STILL on my CV...

That was 3 years ago and i do not have the pay check stubs to prove i was working there .

I have all my work history on my CV too. Even vacation work that I did while at University. Work is work, no matter what. It shows potential employees that you were able to hold down a job, and that you have some form of working experience, no matter what it was. They are more likely to hire someone who knows what working is all about than some guy who has just come out of school and doesn't know what it is like to work a 9 to 5.

It doesn't matter. If they want to check you out, the company that you worked for would be able to confirm that you worked there through all the paperwork you did. If they paid you....its on their system somewhere

Oh i never would have known i was only 15 1/2 and i was not working there for more then the 6 month period .Ill look into that thanks guys

Good things come to those who deserve it. Character plays a big part of it. You're a hard working Joe (L) and your work ethic will carry you through the roughest of times.
