Always Hot?
So the HF 90 is always hot?.?.?.?:toetap05: Makes me glad I skipped going price first and stepped up to my Lincoln(SP135T- 90 amp, 19v open current max. 20% duty cycle). That, and it came with spool adapter for 10# spools standard with the machine. The gas kit for mig was a plug & play, and came as a sales special package with the machine. A general "thanks" to you all on this topic; its good to learn something every day. I still stand by my first post- grommets are throw-a-way, dddddddddddiiiiiiiirrrrrrrrrrttttttt cccchhhheeeeaaaapppp.
I'm still guessing that the wire doesn't get charged 'till it reaches the contact tip at the end of the gun. Also guessing that you aren't seeing voltage between the spool and the case because they are likely on the same side of the circuit, electrically speaking (if they both are charged by the same side of the same circuit, there won't be any differential between the 2 points of reading { its like sticking both probes side by side on the same wire- no difference}). Just a guess.
As far as the drive not being tuff'nuff, I don' know of any cheap quick fixes. Be a good one for you guys to look into/ post more on. PAH
HF 90 amp doesn't have a separate contact/relay/whatever to "charge" the wire once the trigger is pulled, it's always charged, or mine is at least.
I'd be more worried about that little motor pulling that 10lb spool. The motor isn't weak, but the design is flawed. No real grippage coming from the bearing/U groove thing attached to the motor. You start to overtighten the feed mechanism, and then the plastic the bearing is mounted onto begins to warp and bend... and makes it all loose again (remedy by grinding down portions of the plastic part).
PITA...but them 90 amps are hella reliable.
