They have a compression release valve to help pull start it. But I'd rather have an electric start diesel.

Might be fun to sort of, "branch out" away from the Predator line and embrace the other engines. There must be thousands of factories in China churning out various engines that are slightly different or a lot different.

I want a Bison 20 HP recoil start diesel! :D

So what's this little gem cost?

But don't you still need something Electric to get the plug to "Glow"
Yes and no. All a glow plug is supposed to do is preheat the fuel and air to help combustion on initial start up, especially on a cold start. But it isn't always needed, however you'll get tired pulling the rope, or your battery will wear down or you'll have excessive wear on the starter.
Could you imaging coal Rollin in your diesel kart.
Doc Sprocket's diesel weasel has a L100N Yanmar clone diesel.

Just use a propane torch instead. Or keep it in the house so it stays nice and toasty. E-Z start every time.

Don't forget you could use ether. Not all diesels have glow plugs. The infamous Cummins uses a grid heater. I've drove plenty of trucks that had nothing and drove them in one of the coldest states in the lower 48. You could glue a engine heater to the bottom and place washers under the engine to space the difference.

Ether/starting fluid can cause them to become dependent. Usually you had problems if you needed ether for start-up. I forgot the 6BT had grid heaters... Think the 24v and CR have them as well.

Well it wasn't so much wanting a recoil start single cylinder diesel as just the size and horsepower. I'd like both start options: recoil and electric if I had my druthers.

So what's this little gem cost?

If I recall correctly, they're $120 a piece but you have to buy 100. Cracking deal!

Also never use ether on engines with grid heaters.
If you don't have glow plugs or a grid heater or some form of block heater then ether/starting fluid is about the only way to get it to fire. Decompression valves were one original way, or some used gasoline to get them turned started and once warm would switch back to diesel. I've used a lot of ether and it's not that using its such a bad thing, it's how much of it you use.

I've got 1940's IH bulldozer. The engine starts on gasoline using spark plugs, and after it's warmed up, you flip a handle and then that same engine runs on diesel.

Most dozers and tractors I know of from back in the day with diesel, had a pony gas engine that was used to heat up the diesel with its exhaust manifold.

Didn't know they had dual fuel engines like that back then.

Actually the pony motors were used as starting engines on the old big diesels. You started the pony engine and warmed it up then you usually moved a belt tensioner to tighten the belts and start spinning the diesel. after about 10 or 15 minutes depending on how cold it was you disengaged the pony motor and the diesel would be running. See back in the olden says they did not have strong enough starting motors. The heat came from the friction of the spinning diesel engine.
Was interesting to watch.

I had a diesel Mercedes that I converted to run on vegetable oil. Exhaust smelled like fries! I should put a diesel on a kart and run it on fry oil!

It's not for the hemi. Item # is 730 not the 363

So they're not all Hemi's, huh? Is the difference that the Hemi doesn't qualify for CARB exemption? I take it that that's what the 730 is, since it falls in number sequence with the other HP Predators that ARE CARB exempt.

I had the impression that EVERY 212 was a Hemi now. Good detail to know, since the HF ads aren't very specific, but fortunately I do have the 363 in my buying list instead of the 730. Just a good guess.

We had a 1946 D8 Cat when I was a kid. When I was the same age as Mr. Spindles I could start the pony motor (no small task for a 12 year old) fire the dozer, and build a pond or clear property. I still remember the way it blew smoke rings as it would pick up cylinders. Thanks for the memory.

I used to have a picture of me as a long haired 13 year old building a pond with it. Cool stuff.
