HF blue power with TAV2

Alright, so I'm a newbie, been lurking and you guys are great. Tons of info. This is my first build I wauted for 2 weeks to get ny TAV2, already spent my $129 at HF, built most the frame, package comes, its like Christmas and I pull out the shiny new TAV2 and I thought I could simply bolt the Comet TAV2 to the 6.5 HF clone, but there is no way that I could figure out how to attach it w/o adding some 2" or 3" spacer and extension on the crankcase to move the TAV2 plate away from the gas tank and stock exhaust, blah, blah, blah.

Is there a special spacer or mounting bracket required? Seems like such a common engine to drive train setup.

Ohh no I had the same exact problem because of that little stud about 1 inch sticking out, and that exaust heat deflector. I had to mount mine straight down. or you can mount it forward like jarry.

I had to grind away a bit of one of the ribs on the TAV to fit also. If you want I'll get a picture, but if you mount it in the pulley-forward position, you'll know what I'm talking about.

Yeah I do know what you're talkin' bout. I mocked it up with the engine, axle, sprocket and all to get an idea of the angles and it looks as though the only way to place this thing is in a vertical position (drive sprocket down), or maybe one notch forward, but then your chain might contact the cast ribs in the aluminum mounting bracket. I'm trying to make this the most compact setup possible, but it looks like things will have to be spread out a bit to make it work.

BTW - Does the Honda 6.5 that the HF engine is cloned after, also take 8-1.25 mm threads bolts? Comet sends out a 5/16" x 18 thread or something for the engine-mounting bolt with the TAV2. Doesn't Comet know how popular the HF blue clone is?

I had to hack a path for the chain on mine, too. God bless grinders! I have a picture of the set-up on the photo gallery section.

I'm going with it vertical and I'll build a protector of sorts under the frame in case of high centering, rather I do that to steel, than a $160 torque convertor. I spoke to a technician at Comet this morning, he thought it would be fine to remove some of the cast ribs on the mounting plate.

Yeah- grinding away the ribs has had no effect. I was faced with grind/modify or not use it at all- so out came the grinder. It had to go on. Looking back now, I'm pretty satisfied with the HF and regular clutch set-up. The motors have enough stink to pull a fairly tall ratio. The torq-a-verters are definitly worth it on live axle and heavy karts. The kart I put it on climbs hills great and still tops out at 38mph.
