Here is the kart the kids wrecked on their first day outing! I swapped some guns for the kart on a straight trade off of craigslist. Does anyone know which briggs this is? 3 or 5HP? It seems pretty fast. Also, has anyone seen this this frame before?

First things i see, the motor has that small carb, probly a 3hp. the shrouds that go around the motor are gone, these are there to divert the air that the flywheel make to cool the motor.
Also you steering look asqued.

Look for engine numbers. Usually stamped into fly wheel housing near where plug wire exits housing (next to cylinder head).
Could also be on or near label next to carb.

Well I looked at the area you suggested and I couldn't find any numbers. It looks like it might have been painted several times over. I found an air-vane and shroud(cooling tin) on ebay for a five HP briggs. I didn't know if that would work so I didn't bid. I also ordered a new Cheng Shing tire and spindle from Jack's Small Engines. So I'm just waiting to get it repaired before I film and post my kids riding it. Thanks all!

Well, I ordered a spindle from Jack's small engines and waited for over a week for it to arrive. When it arrived I discovered it was the wrong kind of spindle. So I took the old spindle and had it re-welded. I painted it and re-installed it. I brought one of my sons to test the kart out in the school parking lot right before our winter blizzard. It was fun but it was too cold outside. I can tell you that we'll need more power. Maybe I'll buy a blue 6.5 HP from Harbor Freight. They are cheep enough. I was thinking on putting wider wheels & tires on the back since the front seems to have a wider stance than the front. Any suggestions on the size? The back tires are the standard 4.10x3.50x5 size. It handles good enough right now though. It just doesn't look right.

Finally. We get to run it again after the repair. Too bad it was wet outside.

It might need a toe-in adjustment.

Good idea...we'll sand the frame and re-paint it this summer.....probably upgrade to a HF clone 6.5hp w/a torque converter and slicks on the back. All the meanwhile, I'll look for another frame for a build up.

I don't know. You would think my son could run at least 15mph and the kart was speeding by him. Maybe 20mph?

well all together, you can take the frame and make either a safe little kiddy kart or a full out streetster kart. if i were you, and if you think your boys could handle it, put a 8-10hp on there, hi-flow air filter, better carb, straight pipe along w/ the slicks and a better lookin seat. that will make it fast enough to have alottttt of fun on. ill be a little jealous tho. your kart has potential

Pillow blocks

Judging by the school chair and pillow blocked live axle, I would say its a home build.

I concur. The pillow blocks are a dead give away that it's home built. The guy that I got it from had no idea where it came from.
It has two piece rear wheels and 4.10x3.50x5 tires. Any suggestions where to get the slicks and what size? If I get wider rear wheel pieces I can pull this off economically with a minimal cash outlay.
