So,
There I was browsing facebook marketplace just like all of us degenerates do. I stumbled across what was labeled as FOX GO KART, click the link and it looked pretty clean. Seller left 2 words on the entire post "Needs Carb." Asking price was $550. Now me not being afraid of a little carburetor work, i sent the fella a message and starting googling to see what a fox go cart actually was. It turns out he was wrong, and it looks like we found a Quantum or Carbide 150cc toy. (See attached photos).
That is my first question - I know the Quantum came first and the carbide came later, but which one do I actually have? The engine has a build date of 2010 on it.
Anyway, im talking to the guy and looking through the cart - he tells me about how it was his brothers cart and he passed away so he doesnt actually know anything about it (this is confirmed - we were in his brothers garage and there was photos of the 2 hanging up). I started to point out some of the things that were missing, like the battery, keys, and CDI, needs 4 tires etc etc, as you do when you are looking at buying something. We agreed to $150 given the amount of work it needed and loaded it up into my pickup.
I got home and started to look into this cart and here is what I know it needs:
CDI (what do you guys recommend here? I am afraid of those cheap chinese knock offs)
Ignition switch/keys
4 new tires
Carburetor (again, whats the recommendation if I want to leave the option open to rejetting later? I dont want a sealed one)
Battery (favorite cheap brand?)
What else do you guys notice? I have a few loose wires around the CDI box and im not sure what they go to. I am very unfamilair with karts, but I am pretty handy with cars so I should be able to handle most of it.
Long and short of it, I am trying to at least get it fired up ASAP. As soon as I get some confirmation from you all as to what I need, I will get it ordered. I do have the CDI computer cover with the on/off switch laying on the floorboard of the kart. I plan on doing some basics like cleaning it up, pulling the carb, oils, etc while I wait on parts to arrive.
