So,

There I was browsing facebook marketplace just like all of us degenerates do. I stumbled across what was labeled as FOX GO KART, click the link and it looked pretty clean. Seller left 2 words on the entire post "Needs Carb." Asking price was $550. Now me not being afraid of a little carburetor work, i sent the fella a message and starting googling to see what a fox go cart actually was. It turns out he was wrong, and it looks like we found a Quantum or Carbide 150cc toy. (See attached photos).
That is my first question - I know the Quantum came first and the carbide came later, but which one do I actually have? The engine has a build date of 2010 on it.
Anyway, im talking to the guy and looking through the cart - he tells me about how it was his brothers cart and he passed away so he doesnt actually know anything about it (this is confirmed - we were in his brothers garage and there was photos of the 2 hanging up). I started to point out some of the things that were missing, like the battery, keys, and CDI, needs 4 tires etc etc, as you do when you are looking at buying something. We agreed to $150 given the amount of work it needed and loaded it up into my pickup.
I got home and started to look into this cart and here is what I know it needs:

CDI (what do you guys recommend here? I am afraid of those cheap chinese knock offs)
Ignition switch/keys
4 new tires
Carburetor (again, whats the recommendation if I want to leave the option open to rejetting later? I dont want a sealed one)
Battery (favorite cheap brand?)

What else do you guys notice? I have a few loose wires around the CDI box and im not sure what they go to. I am very unfamilair with karts, but I am pretty handy with cars so I should be able to handle most of it.

Long and short of it, I am trying to at least get it fired up ASAP. As soon as I get some confirmation from you all as to what I need, I will get it ordered. I do have the CDI computer cover with the on/off switch laying on the floorboard of the kart. I plan on doing some basics like cleaning it up, pulling the carb, oils, etc while I wait on parts to arrive.

That is an American Sport Works Hammerhead. that carb is able to be taken apart and rebuilt. May have to tap float bowl for screws to put it back on. try ASW for parts first. Before you sink a ton of money into parts get it to fire first. You now have all of my knowledge on them. That's a monster deal by the way!

Getting the price to $150 when it started at $550. WOW. You made out. Same old beautiful wiring mess as all of that style of kart. Good luck. I know nothing about those kind. A few of the guys on this forum are pretty sharp with that style of engine. Hopefully one of them will chime in here with some advice for you.

Yeah i know i can dremel an area into the carb to get the floatbowl screws out. May try that so im not messing around with cheapo carbs. I am waiting on my battery to show up so I can jump the ignition and make sure she wants to turn, then ill get everything else coming!

Yeah I feel lucky on the deal I got. I figured that if nothing else, the frame of this is worth more than I paid for the kart!

I ended up figuring out a bunch of the wiring last night. One of the 3 prong connections is for a brake light that no longer exists - so scratched that one off. I figured out my killswitch wiring which was the 2 singular wires in my last photo. There is a regulator rectifier that sits underneath of the CDI box, and that has 2 sets coming off - the second set of 2 wires (Green and black) I believe dont actually go to anything based on a video I watched from Red Beard Garage.

In an ideal world, ill be able to rebuild/replace carb, fresh gas, new CDI, and fire it up. BUT i also found last night that the coil had been replaced - so my guess is that he had a starting issue before. Time to pull out the voltage meter!

Sounds like you are already making good progress. And yes, even if you pulled the engine out and threw it away, the frame, seats, and rims are worth more than what you paid for it. Here in Southern California, at least double.

the gy6 electrical system is a nightmare. I tried and failed. except I bought a bunch parts first... lost my @$$
Yeah, my favorite part is when it doesnt match the electrical diagram in the service manual :ROFLMAO:. Oh well, I am working through it and hopefully will figure it out. I went ahead and ordered/received a carb, ignition, spark plug and wire, fuel filter, and CDI - I got everything excluding the CDI so hopefully I can make some progress this weekend!

good luck. I really hope it works out better for you than it did for me. that's the problem I Ran into. not o e wire diagram I found remotely matched what I had in front of me and I looked at a ton of them. Even the one for my specific buggy

Does anybody have one of these karts? If so, can you do me a favor and take some pics of your wiring? I think im missing some fuses.. I could use a pic of starter relay/fuse, voltage regulator, generator, etc..

Im not having fun.

It runs!
I fooled around with wiring tonight, ended up breaking the old ignition cylinder so I could attempt a start on it, turned key to RUN and jumped the starter solenoid - after figuring out that my CDI cover kill switch was BACKWARDS, I jumped the solenoid and it fired straight up!
I let it run a few minutes, gave it a couple of blips of throttle (sounded good) and shut her down until I can change the oil.
Now, I was outside after shutting it off just tinkering in the garage, and the MF started cranking on its own out of nowhere! I killed the switches, took key out, and it kept going. I ended up just pulling the battery so it doesn't drain it. I'm assuming I broke the ignition cylinder a little too much 🤣. Oopsie (new set will be here in 2 days).

The person you are trying to reach is no longer in service.

LOL I dont think you want me as your resident expert on these carts. Push buttons and plug wires until something makes noise!
since we have a new expert, I'm going to find one and rebuild it. I will need you on standby. I will need to know exactly what to break and when to get mine started.

Well folks, she lives! I got home, took 5 minute to install new solenoid (and my new brake light!), turn the key and BAM! Cranks by key now! Fires right up again! its gonna be nice not having to jump the solenoid to start it. As of now, the only thing left on my to-do list is to finish the oil change, trace out why my headlights dont work, and give it a good cleaning! Then - delivery to my dads house for the whole lot of grand kids to enjoy.
