Get one first. You'll learn TONS. Pictures are a thousand words, but getting to see one up close is a few million.

Just stick around the forum. Post up questions, and read about... well everything! You'll learn loads.

If you want to learn about small engines IMO screw books.

Get someone who knows about them, get a spare small engine, and tear it apart, and put it back together. Ask the person for reference.

I learnt the most about small engines from tearing my lawnmower apart. I didn't even know what a camshaft was when I did that.

It would make it but would be slow, its too heavy for a small motor like that, good luck getting it to slide and drift. It also has messed up specs, like it says its an auto but then says it has a manual clutch.

Its manual as it you select the gear and automatic in it has a cent internally, like the old honda 3 wheelers.

AGREED. To really understand something sometimes the only way is to take it apart. :cheers2:

Different learning styles I guess. I had a small course on small engines (no hands on) and didn't learn anything til I took it apart.

If you start reading about them like Russ and I then you learn fine details like the reason behind torquing bolts. Also you learn Alot of stuff like what reed valves are made out of and other facts that you probably didnt know before. But I did learn by tearing down a b&s 2 HP and that's where I got interested and started reading.
