Post #135 may be a resource...
I looked at the all the pro bat options, and they are for centered steering wheels, not offset like the Carter Talon. I was going to order the 45-degree unit from carterbrosparts, but they removed United States from the shipping options. So screw those guys, they can suck it. Ordered one for a Trailmaster from some shop that sells Chinese replacement parts. Fingers crossed for decent part and minimal modifications. Will update when complete with link to the part if it works out.

Had some time this morning to put the new steering gear on. This is the one I ordered, it's $130: https://www.vmcchineseparts.com/pro...7fq5p0IGtFoYzmgxZdEgf8wU64eJNQ3xoCm6UQAvD_BwE

It's a 45-degree gear. The main reasons I wanted a 90-degree gear is because I wanted a drop-in solution, and carterbrosparts.com told me when I contacted that the 90-degree gear they sell will not work and is not adaptable to replace my old gear. Well, the 45-degree worked fine with no modifications needed to the steering column. I would have preferred the original from them, but they charge more ($150 and does not include tie rods or ends), and they now don't even ship to USA now anyway.

On the new part, where the clamp lines up on one side, the body of the steering gear is much thinner than the original. I just used neoprene strips to build up the diameter. On that same side, the clamp does not line up to secure the protective boot, so I have that zip-tied for now.

The tie rods it came with were too long. I can cut them down later, but for now, I just used the old tie rods.

Overall, easy modifications with no welding required.

The new tie rods I haven't used, one has a smooth finish, and one has a craze appearance. Neither has the the threaded holes bored straight either. They would work, but they wobble back and forth when spinning them on or off. Other than that, happy with the quality of the steering gear and tie-rod ends.

One more question. I don't have a hex head large enough to remove the fill plug on the body on the steering gear (haven't measured it, but looks about 3/4"). Do these things come prefilled, or do I need to add hydraulic fluid?

Got tires aligned and adjusted to not rub on body with full turn, all ready to go!

I’m sorry but you have exceeded the amount of questions your allowed to ask.

Don’t remove any plugs or add hydraulic fluid especially. Should have all the grease necessary in it.

Mine looks like a screw on plug but its really just a rubber cap that pops on and off.
