Hi all! i need some help i recently purchesed a go kart that came with a 20 series commet torqu converter and it seems the driver pully for the 20 series cannot handle the torque from the motor keeps busting off the little black nobbs by the springs. so im just wondering what should i do get a regular clutch, get a better torque converter? my desired speed is around 40-50 MPH and im riding on mostly flat ground dirt not road use, the kart has 18 inch tall wheels and a tecumseh 6.5 HP

(also i have a 10HP briggs on a Gen that doesnt produce electricity so i also have that motor to work with)

I would duggest a comet 30 or 40 series. As you said, the smaller torque converter is not rated for that much Horsepower.

a centrifugal clutch wont be the bet shoice if you want to get 40-50 mph

whichever's cheaper. lol. just make sure you get the right chain size sprocket - 35 or 41... only one will work for you!

a TAV2 comet 30 clone will do the job just fine.

how many teeth is your axle sprocket? use the calculater here to determine top speed. just remember that more speed = less torque! around 30 mph will give you good torque and give the kart some get-up-and-go, as long as you and/or the kart aren't too heavy.

hmm @3400 RPM it says im doing 32MPH wich is about rite before the 20 series broke but im wondering what is the speed diff between the 6inch driven pully to the 7 inch driven pully?
(and im trying to build this cart to compeat with a mild built 5 hp briggs @ 40MPH)

smaller driven will get you less torque for climbing and take-off. both will get you the same top speed.

top speed doesn't make a better kart. my little kart eventually does 40 mph with me on it (barely moves on grass, absolutely no hill climbing capabilty unless i have a running start), but my big kart does 25 mph almost instantly, and is a lot more fun to drive, especially off-road, on grass and gravel. it'll climb hills like they're not even there! well, almost. lol.

yeah man see i got several types of tracks cut out long oval short ones figure 8s and such and my other cart has a centrifugal clutch on it with 5 HP briggs winds up to 5000RPMS at about 43 MPH so im trying to achieve that speed but with a torque converter please someone suggest a model that can achieve this

i think everones missing somthing here, how did you come to the fact its a 20 series? just because the driver is stamped with a 20 does not mean its a 20 series

i know it is it uses the double angel belt! and it just keeps busting the little black stoppers on the cam where the spring rest and there for they break and the spring half way comes out! idk if they cant handle the higher RPMs or what but i just need a setup that can reach 40 MPH

the 6.5 hp engine really cant get you that fast no matter what transmission you hook up to it. but it depends on how heavy the vehicle is and the terrain you drive over

not trying to confuse you, but you can go 90 mph with a 6.5hp engine but its going to take years for you to accelerate to that speed

the generator has a tapered shaft so you cant put a torque converter on it unfortunately

if you got a 125cc lifan engine off ebay or something else off craigslist that would get you the speed you want guaranteed

I had a 5.5HP Tecumseh on my old kart and I topped out my speed at 62MPH. If you do some research, you can get small engines to high speeds easily. Just think about it, a 150cc dirtbike can get 120MPH, that's a 15o cc engine. A 6.5HP is, I believe, around 196cc.

For a 6.5Hp, a 30 series would help a lot more than a 20.

And do you know what gearing you need to get there? What is the ratio on your differential?

well me and the kart prolly dont even top 250 im only 165lbs and i got a live axle with a 52 tooth sprocket pushin 18inch tires and the motor is not governd and i noticed the max RPMs these converters allow is only 3600RPMs so i really dont no twhat to do
