Hey guys,

it was foolish i know but i just wanted to see if it ran after i cleaned the carb (didnt run before) and it did so i rode it around on the straight gas and then the engine would make a funny sound, get really hot, start smoking from the sparkplug area and turn off. then when i went to start it it would be harder to pull so id let it sit and then it would be fine. so id ride it again and the same thing happened. :censored:

:mad2:I now realize that that was bad to the engine but what i want to know is what i can do to fix it? Should i drain the gas and put in some good mixed 2 stroke oil and gas and just let it run on that for a while? Do i have to take off the cylindeer head and pour some oil in there?? HELP!!!!

Thanks,
Josh

Why would you ride it again after you realised?

Does it still turn over? It has most likely done some damage. I would just drain the fuel out and put in some 2 stroke mix. Maybe take out the spark plug and put a bit of oil down just to lube up the rings and piston.

Only time will tell. Get it going again on 2 stroke mix and see what happens. It maybe fine or it could be stuffed.

The oil injector on my old Honda scooter got clogged so the engine ran for a while on straight gas.

For a while...

...Melted the piston and scored the cylinder = rebuild. (Would've been nice for Honda to install a high temp warning lamp)

ALWAYS use oil with a 2 stroke or else!

ok well today i got the oil mixed with the gas, and then i left the gas on and went inside for a little so the gas/oil would get in the engine. I came outside and got it started up. after messing around with the idle screw i got it to idle good and then i left it running and mowed the lawn. I came back and it was still idleing good and didnt make any weird sounds or anything so i took it for a ride. Everything went smooth and it revved up just like it should and it rode great. I think i got lucky this time. lol.

One thing i did notice was that it smoked ALOT, more than normal... what could have caused this?

well running a 2 stroke on straight gas is just like running a 4 stroke with NO oil in the crank case.

2 strokes get all their lube from the oil in the gas. take away that oil, and there is no lube in the engine whatsoever.

the reason why it ran for a little is because there was still some oil left in corners inside the engine. once there was no oil left at all, the bearing surfaces and moving parts created alot of metal to metal friction. this creates alot of heat and literally melts parts.

once i got my 2 stroke can filled and forgot to put the oil into it. so a few days later, i take the 2 stroke can and fill up the tank. ride around for a while and when i got to the big hill it started to bog down. i wonder why? so halfway up the hill the engine dies out and turns over hard. at that point i took the gas cap off and smelled the gas. what do you know? its straight gas. i felt so stupid. so i took it back home, wire wheeled the piston (lol) and put new rings in it, new 2 stroke gas, and it runs again.

still runs a little crappy though because the cylinder has minor scoring and i need to put the $$$ into it to get a new head, rings, and piston. whatever... lesson learned.

yeahhh thank god i didnt have to do that to mine. do you know what is causing all the smoke?

When you burn oil...it smokes. Hence why some people refer to 2 strokes as 2 smokes. Oil burns with a more visible smoke than gas does. Even with a 40:1 mix ratio or something.
