So, I was working on my go kart, and I discovered something HORRIFYING.
MY DRIVE SPROCKET IS BENT!:censored:(Assorted angry sounds)
And even worse, it's an obscure size!
66 teeth.
I remember seeing somewhere on here that(I think it was either jandj or Joe-405) someone mentioned a place where you could order a custom sprocket and also have it anodized in any color you want.
Anyone know what I mean?
I need:
  • 66 teeth
  • #35 pitch chain
  • Approx. 2 15/16" bolt circle
I found this one at OMBWarehouse:

Ok, I just wanted someone to verify that that sprocket will work.
Budget GoKart, #35 chain is ok for normal duty applications, but for very high power, the best is #420 chain, the strongest normally used.

Well, I've got a 12T Max Torque clutch(noticed the 'Max Torque' markings the same day I noticed the bent sprocket) and I'd kinda like to keep the 5.5/1 gear ratio, as it would give a respectable top speed and I think it would have a decent low end.
Any thoughts on how the gear ratio may be improved?

Torque Converter. Same speed, much much better low end performance.

I could do a torque converter, but I don't have even $50 to play with.
Also, I wanna know how well it performs with 'stock' configuration.
'stock'...
My go kart has been HEAVILY modified.

:roflol::roflol::kewlsmiley:
Either way, I don't have a battery backup for it, so chances are it might alert me to a tornado...
After the power's been restored...:surrender:
Even then, when there's inclement weather, our amateur radios have the NOAA Weather Alert channels programmed into them, so we really don't need it.
Seriously, I don't know why it's called Tornado Alley.
We live smack dab in the middle of it, and we've NEVER seen a tornado in about 5 years of living here.
Rain akin to Niagra Falls? Yes.
Transformers blown and multi day power outages? Yes.
Lightning that sounds like it struck the house down the block? Yes.
No tornadoes.

Update:
I think the sprocket is actually OK, I think the torque on the bolts was distorting it slightly.
After I got the sprocket off, I cleared all the garbage out of the rim.
Then I found out the previous owner had rednecked the hub assembly.
There's probably a dozen stacked washers to space the sprocket.
Without it, the tire sidewalls make it impossible to mount a chain, since the hub needs to be longer. The mounting bolts are mismatched with how much space there is between the head and the threads, so I am hoping to get to the hardware store soon to get new bolts and maybe nuts. At this point, I'll probably just restack the washers to get the proper chain alignment.

I still straighten things with the proper application of a big hammer. I mean if it ain't beyond repair then by all means repair it. Take your time and learn to use your hammer.
