Only hardened copper wire will work, steel piano wire is mo bedder.
You have access to a lathe?
Nope. Mounted the whole assembly to the workbench and ground it flat and level using a granite slab and paper + wooden supports to make sure the slab was level when it slid around.

Are you serious about piano wire? because it was a pain to straighten the pins then re-rivet the chain back together. Then I had to untension and retension the chain each time I took it on and off.

Why go half way? Take some spare chain get the side plates, use some broken drill bits as "rivets"
Then just weld it. Run the chain a little looser, it'll be fine!

I do admire the creativity, resourcefulness, and tenacity it takes to make parts like that with "basic" tools.
I couldn't make anything without machines.

Thank you. I in turn admire machines that don't require maintenance every .5 seconds, as it is with everything I hack together. From what I've seen of your builds, they are far and above my build quality. I can only hope to emulate once I've bought my own machines.

Thank you! The beauty of forums such as these is you only see what I want ya to see. Notice there are no close up pics? There is a reason for that. You also don't see the first 5 scrapped attempts. Now you know the secrets....

I only asked about the lathe, cuz it's purdy easy to make a concentric hub if ya can get yer hands onna lathe.
l have been known to help out by making small parts for some patients here from time to time. The quality is for shyt and the price is outa line, but if yer stuckl send me a message.
Will do. I have also considered approaching the Engineering department at Kennesaw State University to use their machines and expertise
