I have a small go kart with a Briggs 5hp 130212 and I have removed the governor completely because the springs were pissing me off. Can someone please post pics of, or explain to me the best way now to hook up the throttle ? I'm new to all of this and I just wanna get it right. Also, now that I removed the governor, what should I do to the engine to keep it from destroying itself ? Thanks in advance.

another question about this kart I'm doing... the sprocket that the chain goes around is pretty small compared to some of the other ones that I've seen on other karts... that should increase take off and kill top end speed correct ?

Depends on how high you want to rev it. 4000-4300 RPM leave it stock. Want more? You'l probably want to get a billet rod and maybe even a billet flywheel. Then probably a bigger cam and valve springs. See the list never stop's. Once you start you cant stop.

so, the way it is now... if I hold on the gas, the rpms will just climb until it comes apart or what ? is there something I can do to make sure I don't over rev ? how hard is it to put in a billet rod etc. or should I ask how easy is it to mess things up ? also, is it safe to shave the eyebrows by just taking off the head, or do I need to only do that with it completely taken apart ?

another question... are the engines at Harbor Freight what's called the Honda clone ? I went up there a while back and asked them that same question and they said that they think they're Suzuki clones, so I split.

Well the 6.5 blue engine's are called honda clones. The chances of you having the pedel to the floor for that long arent very likely. you'l know just by ear when your pushing it. It's not hard to install a billet rod and such it just takes time. I guess you could shave the eye brows without total disasembly just be sure there are no more metel filing's/dust before putting the head back on.

okay cool, thanks for the advise. one more thing... I just talked to a guy that has a B/S Raptor engine that he just built and it's on a go kart that needs work, but I'm not after the frame so that's beside the point. he says he built it just a few days ago and it's definitely a "Raptor", but he only wants $175. or best offer for it... he also said that when he was a lot younger that he built one just the same as he did this one and got clocked by the police going 85 mph on a yard kart.... does this sound truthfull at all ?

A stock ungoverned briggs 5 hp will not scatter pegged out IF its under a load. You will window the block if you hold it wide open on blocks/with the chain off.

Many "raptor" motors arent really briggs raptors they are converted tiller blocks.

Does it burn methanol? What kind of head work does it have? what cam is in it? Has it been WKA blueprinted? How heavy are the valve springs? Rod? Flywheel? A built up raptor could push a kart to 80mph.

well, he said that he uses 93 Octane gas in it, but doesn't have a clutch for this one to actually drive it. I'm not sure really what else has been done to it either. how could I know for sure if it's an actual Raptor ?

I'll take a look at it. He said that's just what he uses in any motor he gets. I'm not sure if he actually "has" to use it though. If it is a true Raptor or even if it seems like a good racing motor, would that be a good deal you think ? Does the Raptor motors have a different model number or code ? What is so special about a Raptor rather than a tiller motor anyway ?

how do you crank one that has the shroud with all the holes in it rather than a pull string ? that's probably a stupid question, but from the pictures, I can't figure it out. you'll never know if you don't ask...

You use a separate starter housing, slip it over the starter clutch, pull it over, then take it back off.

well chances are it's not an actual Raptor if they're suppose to burn methanol. I wouldn;t wanna go 80 mph anyhow... I think I'll just stick to what I have for the meantime and maybe get a spare in the near future to actually "build". I'll just need to learn a bit more about certain things, but I'll wait and ask when the time comes. You guys are a lot of help. I appreciate it. Is anyone here near the Birmingham, AL area and have any helpful parts to sell ? Just a shot in the dark. :2guns:
