This is my first time messing with anything mechanic mak, I bought the go kart off of someone and I am trying to get it running. The only thing I have left is to put the last chain on. I have already sized the chain and test fitted it but it’s crooked because the sprockets and align perfectly causing the clutch to made a rubbing noise and spark a little bit. The clutch is fine with the chain isn’t pulling on it. I don’t have anymore axel to work with so I’m not sure if I’m supposed to Move the whole clutch over or what.
Here are some pictures
Thank you !!!

Take the motor off, and widen the holes for mounting...
Should be able to get it close enough...
Might need to use a few washers to keep a better purchase on tightening the bolts...

I see you have the sprocket welded to the jackshaft... That soon will cause you problems...

Why can’t I just move the clutch over a bit? What problems will the welded jack shaft cause?

Thoughts:
* You could flip the clutch over on the drive shaft and see how that changes things. But it may just throw the alignment problem to the other side.
* I installed one of these for better positioning of my motor.

It gave plenty of forward-back and left-right adjustment. You can get one from OMBwarehouse that comes with hardware (square head bolts) or get one a little cheaper without hardware from BMIkarts.

C-gar, thanks I was thinking about flipping the clutch too but I can’t get it off. I took the golt out of the middle and I thought their would be a set screw or something else to loosen up but there just isn’t anything else that I see

Do you have set screws here?

What problems will the welded jack shaft cause?
You lose a few options for adjustment of the chain alignment and you'll have to replace more than just the sprocket when it is time to replace the sprocket. That's what comes to my mind. mckutzy may know of more examples.

Yup... if the ratio is working well, bearing goes, broken shaft/bearing/sprocket ect...
Those are some good reasons... also.. one of the best good examples if you weld on a bearing or near it, itll arc the raceway and that will destroy it quicker than most other ways...if not the heat will.....
