Good evening I’m Josh. I’m working on a Carter brothers 2336-3417. Little to no idea what I am doing!

Welcome to the forum. While Carter was a fairly popular brand of kart, I seriously doubt many of us know what a 2336-3417 is. I know I sure don't. Post some pictures of your project. Dozens of very experienced members on this site eager to help you out. Most anything you have a problem with, chances are someone here will be able to help you out.

Sorry that was just the model # on there. Will do! a bit late here to take pics but I’ll get some posted tomorrow seriously need help! My son bought this and predator 224. I guess building a go cart has been a dream of his I don’t know. But he’s like we can fix it right. lol I’m pretty mechanical but I do motorcycles lol!

Here are some photos I don’t have the engine out yet but it’s a predator 224 3/4 shaft. I’m the other I’m sure I do not have is a bolt for the drive shaft. Where I. The world do I start

Are you going to clean it up ( paint ) first or put it together as is. Don't bother posting a picture of your 224 ( until assembly time ) as we all know what it looks like. Your torque converter looks complete. Very filthy looking. Get out the brake parts cleaner and scotch bright. Might be saveable. Lots of videos explaining
( and showing ) how to service a 20 or 30 series torque converter. Give us a picture looking into the driven clutch, ( the large one that's mounted on the shaft) and we can tell you if it's a 20 or 30.

Carter used a lot of 20 series clutches. Your driven is most definitely a 20 series and looks original to the kart. 20s are a great set up. JimD here owns Max-Torque who made many of those clutches! He is a great guy and very helpful

What’s bolts to I use for the end of the motor shaft? To mount the pulleys? The old 5.5 engine is def gunna take a lot of work. Left outside with air filter off.

Thats a prescription for replacement.

The bolt that goes into the end of the crankshaft is 5/16 X 24. You'll have to experiment on the length, but probably in the 2&1/2 to 3" range.

okay guys! Had to fix the Harley so the gocart got put on hold for a minute! here are more pics. We got it assembled however can not get it to engage the belt. We laid the parts out on a board the was we assembled from top to bottom! One other is there is a small spacer at the top seemed to push everything out to far on the 224. We cannot get the assembly back on the original engine lol. I’m hoping you guys can save me here!

Are the weights free to slide apart? Is all the rust cleaned off both inside and outside? You have 20 series clutches are you using the proper belt along with the proper length?

You mean the weights with the springs wrapped around them? As far as rust no I have not cleaned it off yet.

You need to clean everything up and get it moving freely and lubed up with powdered graphite first.

Heck I can’t get them to move with a screwdriver

Even with the springs off? If that is the case I would start looking for a new 20 series primary or pm JimD for advice. He owns Max-Torque, the guys who built that clutch. He’s a very nice guy who is very helpful!

No I have not taken the springs off. Another question is the driver unit supposed to slide towards the engine down the shaft?
