Hello from Arkansas

Greetings from NW Arkansas. Been doing a lot of research on the site lately. Great resource. Almost done with my first kart project. Two seat dune buggy style for my 6y old. 6.5 HF Clone with some external mods. First time I've done any mods to a clone and I'm working through some issues. Any advice is appreciated. Here's some pics.

Thxs. Sorry about that. I use Tapatalk and sometimes it doesn't want to cooperate. I wasn't sure it posted the first time.

He'll be seven in a couple of weeks. He's a big dude. He barely fits in that quarter midget seat.

Even though I used 1 inch .065, I'm concerned about the 6.5 pulling it up hills. We'll see.

Well, at least you used a torque converter, that's a good start...

I've got shocks that match the front, just haven't got there yet.

That's a beautiful buggy you made there,
and it looks like there's even enough room for an adult, so that looks like some decades of fun.

One thing though: It's surely heavier as a standard kart, and for a 6yo that's perfectly fine with a 6.5HP engine, but I guess you should already plan in to mount a bigger engine in... let's say 8-10 years

Agree. The 11 or 13hp will probably be in there at some point.

No it'll take two-three, but I think you can reason to "not get a bigger engine" with at least a twelve year old
[Or you did something wrong]
With puberty though.... get the engine, you can not argue with hormones

That is an awesome buggy!! How have you kept it so shiny? My stuff starts rusting within a week.

I would also agree that a bigger engine will be needed soon. You will then have to get the 40 series TC or equivalent

Not sure on the rust. I don't do anything special other than start with clean tube. Climate maybe?

I bought this engine a couple years ago so figured I'd start with it. If it's not enough ill move it to a smaller kart for my youngest and go bigger. Just got to bleed the brakes and it will be ready for first test drive.

Not necessarily. Usually with buggies you don't use a #35, but seeing that your engine is only a 6.5HP, you should be OK for the moment.

If you get anything larger than a 6.5HP, I would strongly suggest that you go up to a #40 chain. You will have to change out all your sprockets as well. #35 chain is just not made to withstand high torque and could snap

Thanks for the heads up. I got the 35, because the TAV had a 35 sprocket on it. If I change engines, I'll have to switch TAV because of the shaft size. That will be a good time to switch chains.

Just make sure you buy the good #35 chain. Good stuff will hold up to more than cheap #40 chain.
