Thanks for the comments on the kart. We feel we made out like bandits with it. Just need to get the tires aired up and a valve stem in the back tire (the part where you connect it to get air was ripped off, so a new one needs to be pushed through the inside of the rim)

Get a gasket for the carb bowl and fix that leak, get some new oil in it and make sure everything is lubed up and she'll be ready for a test run =)

We can't wait, it's going together easier than we thought.

Ok, so we got the back tires on and pumped up, however, one seems to have a small leak and it goes away when pressure is put on it. Not sure how to fix that.

The sad news, it's a smoker now.

It started smoking from the belt/pulley after about 3-5 seconds of being on. Does this need to be oiled? If so, with what, and where do I oil it? It kinda gives off a burnt rubber and fireworks smell.

Also, what kind of oil do I need in general?

And is this my idle adjustment?

Thanks again

Nope. That is not your idle mixture screw. It is going to be on the carb.
like the yellow circle right here. If you tell us what model engine you have we can tell you where the screw is exactly.

It's a 6hp Tecumseh 0HH60 71157D.

What about the smoke coming from the belt/pulley?

I did turn that screw I had pointed to turned counter-clockwise just a smidgen as well.

There is no mixtures screws on these newer engines, there is however a idle setscrew, take a picture of your carb and i'll point it out for you. Smoke coming from torque converter could be high idle, weak driver spring, or it may just need cleaning.

This is the last pic I took, i'm guessing it's that small gold screw? It has a spring on the backside of it, and was covered with a rubber sheath like thing.

Yup, thats it. Disconnect your chain, and start the engine, turn the screw clockwise to increase idle and counter clockwise to decrease.

Why do I disconnect the chain? Wont I need that on to know if it stops the tires from turning?

Also, is there a way to fix a tubeless tire leak? It seems to have a leak just inside where it meets up w/the outter rim just below the edge of it.

you dont have to disconnect the chain, but its just easier (or putting the back end up on stands). You basically want it to idle as low as it can.

Is your tire cracked, or is it just not seating right? if its cracked fix-a-flat, if its not seating right take the tire off and clean the rim up with a wire brush.

I think check me here, that your idle pulley.... arm is not engaging on your torque converter. However could very well could be from not having your idle high enough. Taking the converter apart and cleaning it might not be a bad idea anyhow.

Found this little spring there at the bottom not connected to anything... dunno what it's for and if that could be part of the problem.

Also, took a short vid of the smoking, the back pully doesn't seem to be moving at all, I think that's why it's smoking, the front pulley is going, and burning the rubber on the belt because it's just spinning so fast w/out the rear moving as well.

I played with the idle screw, but the wheels still kept spinning. I'm guessing that something is off somewhere causing this to happen.

Dunno why the video is double posted... still not quite sure how to embed the video into a post.

This is a pic of the back pulley on the TQ, is the right side of it supposed to be in between the two black notches?

New update:

While running the go-kart w/the foot off the brake, the pulley runs just fine without any smoke.

Now the problem lies with the idle. I've got it pretty much all the way counterclockwise but it's still spinning the tires like mad. Is that little spring that is off in post 31 the problem?

when the tires are off the ground at idle, the tires will spin but you should be able to stop them by hand fairly easily.

I figure at idle it's possible to move the tires, but this moves the tires like it's going 20+ mph or something.

We need to figure it out so one person doesn't have to sit on the break while the other starts it.

Is that a 20 series or a 30 series torque converter? It looks like a 20 but if it's a 30 series then the driven pulley is on backwards and that would account for all of the issues you're having with it. the way to tell is on the 20 series the sheave faces that contact the belt are the same angle on both sides on the 30 series the face that is closest to the engine is almost flat and the outer face is like 20 degrees or something. It's also possible that the engine is too far forward putting too much tension on the belt at idle
