Have you ever loaned a gokart and they hurt themself ?

I invited a friend i haven't seen much in the past 15 years. I got to know him as our wives are good friends. Anyway I invited him to come karting with me and he brought one of his adult children with him as I have three karts now. This was the first time all three were used at once. I gave them a quick verbal run down of the karts and he picked the little kart with handle bars to use. Maybe I could've given a little more instruction because he flipped the kart within seconds of sitting in it I didn't get any video so I'll need to explain it...

It was a high grip solid surface. The kart was on a concrete apron facing out to a bitumen road. I had explained the controls - motorbike style twist grip throttle etc... I don't know how much motorbike experience he's had but he must've give it a twist without expecting the responsiveness and torque of electric. I suspect the kart lurched forward and caused him to reef on the throttle. The kart did a short wheelie and looped out, flipping him on his back. He was obviously hurt, scratched up his spine (skinny guy). He took a breather and we all still went karting. For the first 10-15min he drove like an absolute nanny even in the dirt but who could blame him.

Needless to say I feel terrible about it. Our friendship is unaffected, when he left he was talking about next time we go karting.... but geez i wish it didn't happen.

Oh dear. Can’t say it about my own karts (always broken!) but recall hearing my brother describe someone wanting to try out his Honda V4 Interceptor in a mostly empty parking lot and there was a high concrete retaining wall nearby….

Man no worries I loaned a ds80 out dude ditched it and broke his collar bone.

Loaned a gokart and it hit a ditch ejected the driver and smashed a tree.

Loaned a mini bike and she drove it through a fell over apple tree. (Never laughed so hard in my life)

Again loaned out the ds80 girl slammed it into her own car.

Stuff happens no big.

Reefing on the throttle is a classic rookie move. Anyone can mash a pedal but the twist grip takes finesse, wisdom and care.

I did have that one guy dunk the kart in water but that was funny because he just got wet

Did he ask you to hold his beer before he mashed the twist grip?

As long as they’re not riding along a cliff face or a trail where any deviation means they crash into a crocodile pit on either side, you should encourage neophyte riders to have a go. Sounds careless, dangerous and daring maybe, but this is still a rare sport and we need more karting fools to keep it alive. And you may get more riding buddies out of it. Nothing quite as dull as riding alone (sometimes).

Lol, he's not usually such a reckless person. I'm glad he didn't injure his hands/fingers because he plays high level classical guitar

Pretty much everyone I've invited has never been on offroad karts before. 1-2 have been on on-road karts and a few more on hire karts. I haven't come across anyone enthusiastic enough to even think about buying their own. Sure it would be nice if someone else bought one but no biggie, I'm set up with 3 karts and 3 helmets with radios. They go karting once in a while, I go karting lots

Never point them towards the assets home/spouse/car or younger siblings no cliff riding as stated above and that‘s pretty much all bases covered.
