Get a low profile mask for under the welding helmet (I use one for welding and grinding). You might try a fan to blow fumes away from you as you weld.

The bigger problem with using galvanized on an exhaust is that if you don't get it done right the galvanize cooking off the exhaust can weaken the welds and also put off the zinc fumes. If it's welded right and pointed in the right direction, and cooked right, its all no li ase.

Cant really use a fan if your using shielding gas.
