gx390 carb off generator question

I have a almost brand new gx390 off a generator. Started the build already, new crack, mild cam, billet rob, stiffer valve springs, governor deleted. when I realized the carb has the electric solenoid. Is this going to cause me issues? if so are there any work arounds? Can I just remove and replace with just a standard bowl?

I plan to get a 32/34mm carb down the road but with the money I have tied up already in the engine and frame it will be a few weeks before I get one.

On a different note, coming out of the valve cover there is what looks to be some sort of breather hose that went to the airbox(which has been removed). Can I just get rid of this completely?

Thanks for any help !

If it went to the valve cover then no, you want that as it crankscase ventilation BUT you can add a fuel filter to stop crud from getting in (advisable). If I'm off base please post a picture.

What Brian said. Use a smallish filter that will fit that air tube so debris won't make it's way back into your engine. Fuel tank clunk filters work good. And if you look around at the parts store you may be able to find a valve cover vent filter to fit it. But don't plug it off. The piston inside your engine is going up and down at one **** of a fast pace. That crankcase needs to be able to have a way to vent those pulses. If pressure builds with nowhere to go it will find the weakest link. And also lead to poor performance.

That's a breather hose for sure!

To answer your other question, the solenoid on the bottom of the fuel bowl is most likely a electric fuel shutoff valve and shouldn't cause you issues but yes you can bypass it with another bowl but you'd want to add a inline fuel shutoff valve to be on the safe side. Powering it up retracts the plunger and allows fuel to flow.

Reaching out for some advise. Finally got every put together, to include the new carb. It idles good, rips off the line but i expected more from it. I settled on a 40 series TC while i save funds for a duster.

Issue: 1) i feel as if the engine is not turning more than stock RPMs( No tach to test) 2) top speed is right around 40 (phone app). Thought i had it figured out to run atleast 60. Gearing is as follows ( 10 tooth drive, 32 tooth axle, and 20" tires on a 10" rim.)

Can anyone speculate as to what i am missing?

Get a much bigger sprocket. That gearing is capable of insane top speed, but it’ll have extremely weak torque. Basically, your engine just doesn’t have the power to rev past stock RPMs, you need to ease it’s load. There was probably a jack shaft or gear reduction originally on that kart that it needs badly.
3.2/1 is insanely high for 20 inches, try shooting for 6: 1. Look for a 60 tooth sprocket to accomplish that.

Thanks! i am going to try and find one. Also just found out that these newer honda's have a REV limiter built into the coil. Looks like i need to buy something else now...

this unfortunately will cause a delay in getting the better TC and flywheel. Is what it is tho.

Your gearing is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too high. Anything bigger than a 32 would be better. Try go as large as you can. 6:1 is a good starting point. You could also get smaller tyres to achieve the same gear reduction.

How about some pics of the kart. Pics tell a 1000 words
