Ok i may change out the sprocket for a 35 tooth one which will give me 95km/h at 5k rpm.

I assume standard size rings and original piston will be fine with a hone?

yea, as longas the piston isn't scored you can reuse it, and it is recommended that you purchase new rings (std. size) and install them. But if your rings look good, i would soak the piston w/ rings on it in oil for a day and then remove it and degrease it. Then just put a little oil around each ring when you install the piston and rings back into the motor. MAKE SURE YOU LUBRICATE THE CYLINDER WALLS BEFORE YOU REINSTALL THE PISTON

I ran your 35 tooth #'s and came up with 87KPH or 52mph. At first I thought your 12/35 ratio sounded kinda wacky but 52mph from a 9hp. actually engine sounds fairly do-able to me. You wouldn't have super good acceleration and you'd be stressing your clutch more cause it would be slipping longer before it would finally lock in, but I think this would probably work out ok as long as you and your kart are not too heavy and you'd be mostly riding on flat/level hard surfaces. (prolly wouldn't climb hills or accelerate in loose dirt/sand very well)

I think it kinda also comes down to how good of a clutch you have. What brand is it, and whats the max HP. its rated for ?

Thanks for the reply anderkart.

Yea change of plans though, not running this engine as ive got ahold of a yz80 engine around 20hp. The gx270 is going on a mini bike that will be geared to do about 60kph.

I have a comet heavy duty rated for 15hp, it has needle bearings.

Just for future reference solomon and anyone else. We are Australians, we dont have seafoam. We do have a similar product (injector & carbon cleaner) at the auto store but yer. Ive personally never used the stuff. Dont really see the point (its like 25 bucks!). A good flogging will sure clean it out. If it doesnt a little alcohol sprayed into the air cleaner should do the trick hehe. (the last one was a joke btw)
