I've fooled around with my gx160 quite a bit and have incorporated many mild eninge mods. after perform alll the mods my engine performed beautifully. However recently, i pulled out the low oil level sensor and introduced a flat top piston and gx200 gasket to the mix. Now the engine won't start. Be for i was runnning the stock head and gx160 head gasket. it could be possible im running to much compression for my cam which has a max of 10 to 1. However i was wondering if i did something to the circuitry by taking out the low oil sensor? thanxs

basically i have modified gx 160 and the last modifications i've made to were arc rod and put in gx200 head gasket. In order to put in the arc rod i had to take out the oil sensor. I took it out the wire attached to it. i left the wire that was attached to the engine. the engine was working before i performed these mods. it has a spark and i have checked the push rods and surrounding area and it looks fine. i'm kinda stumped. my next move is to check the crank case. any suggestions?

you've probably ground the spark when removing the oil sensor, double check your wires

EDIT nvr mind you got spark :rolleyes3:

Try a compression check. Any binding? Any sputter or attempted firing?

no binding or sputter. i smell gas in the when i take out the spark plug so i know thats not a problem and i have spark. could it be the timing got messed up? maybe the spark might be firing when the pistons all the way up?

Inlet gasket probably needs replacing if you reused it, dodgy head gaskets will stop any engine from running too. Just wandering, Why are you using a GX200 head gasket?

Have you adjusted the rockers correctly?

Thanks

i just replaced the gaskets and the changed the head gasket to the original gx160. i did to increase compression a bit. all the gaskets are in good shape. the rockers are adjust to correct specs as stated by the camshaft requirements which is 0.02 intake and 0.03 on the exhaust. it i'm over looking something really small that cause this havoc. basicaslly when i try to start the engine it's like trying to start it when the kill switch is off. it's turns over but it's get no life so to speak and yes i switched kill switch on when i started it.

the cam timing is corrected and it still won't run. i checked the spark after attempting to fire and notice the plug isn't wet with fuel.could it be that it's fuel issue?

If you had the engine running, dismantled the engine and then had to wait over a month to get the parts and have it fully disassembled and then put back together with your new parts, then it is possible that you have hardened gas in your carb preventing flow.

put some gas down the spark plug hole, reinstall the spark plug and see if she fires. Might have to turn the idle up too

i put in some quick start and it fired for a sec. i think the carb is the culprit. i switched over to my old carb. i took the new carb and cleaned it with compressed air and it currently runnig with gx140 emulsion tube and a 95 jet. is it possible it gummmed up some where? fuel enters to the bowl of the carb but i don't think it getting to valves. any thoughts? thanxs

Yes, your carburetor is the culprit. Is the idle speed not turned up enough? It could be gummed. But if it fired with starting fluid or gas then it tells you thats what it is not receiving.

i put the old carb and it fired up. it sounds great. i cleaned out the other carb very thoroughly so i will attempt again. the idle was up high. its still stumping what went wrong. hmmm at least i finally get to ride it again. im gunna post some pics of the frame design it's very unusual to say the least lol.
