You don't need a gauge cluster, but you might want to see if you can pick one up on Ebay anyway, they generally aren't that much money. One thing I would strongly recommend is to get a shop manual for that motor/bike, it will help immensely with wiring questions. I'd check Ebay for that, and the radiator too, I got the one for my kart from a Kawasaki Mohave off Ebay (it was the right size and shape), and it's was $39, shipped, with coolant reservoir and cooling fan included. AFAIK, there are not any sensors other than the cooling fan switch (in the radiator), but you can do that with a toggle switch just as well if you wanted. You said it's a 99 right? And carbed?
yeah i already managed to find the shop manual online. it is a 99 or 2000 and it is carbed. i ake it that the cdi box and everything to do with ignition timing should already be mounted on the motor?
so all i will need to get other than the motor he is selling is the radiator/fan/reservoir. i have a fuel pump from a lawn mower, can i use that? if not i can just gravity feed it? the stock system did indeed use a fuel pump.
also, i am going to NEED a throttle position sensor if its not on there already correct?

My carbed GS-500 has a TPS. It uses it as one way to control the electronic ignition advance. Also has a vacuum sensor for the same purpose.

If the stock bike system had a fuel pump, you probably will need one, the mower pump may work. The CDI box and coils are usually mounted on the frame, so make sure you get them and the wiring harness with the motor, the CDI units aren't cheap if you have to buy them.
If the manual mentions a TPS, then you will probably need one, but it should be mounted on the motor.

A single big round Mikuni pump, or a pair of the little square ones should supply enough fuel. The big round Mikunis supply enough fuel for 750~1000 cc Jetski motors.

The one I have on my kart is just like the DF52 models, but it's only a single outlet, probably because it's actually an OEM pump off a jetski. It takes the same kits as those though.

I just sold 2 of those same 1 outlet pumps on here, they came off a 3 cylinder sled that used one PER CARB (triple carb), wish i coulda seen that sled running, 750cc and 140hp stock.
Are you sure this bike has a fuel pump stock and not just a diaphragm petcock? i cant see it using so much fuel that gravity couldn't keep up with it.
i think it has a fuel pump because of the way that the tank sits on top of the carbs. here is the diagram. do you thik a gravity feed setup would work?

Gravity should work, might need larger needles and seats in the carb. Even if it wont work gravity feed, those mikuni fuel pumps are cheap.

whether i do gravity or a fuel pump, do i need to have one of those diaphram things? i dont exactly understand how that works with the negative pressure and what not so can i just leave it out of the equation?

My kz400 had one of those diaphragm petcocks also, I'm running it gravity feed without problems.
From my understanding the diaphragm just stops fuel from flowing when the engine is off, but i may be wrong so don't quote me on that.

My 93 CBR 600 has a vacuum petcock too. It just shuts off the fuel when the motor isn't running, so you don't have to remember to shut the petcock off yourself. Gravity fed fuel systems tend to leak fuel past the needle and seats when they sit for a while if they don't have a shut-off valve, even on automotive carbs. My old boss has a '29 Model A roadster pickup with a 350 SBC and a tri-power carb setup, using the original fuel tank, with a shutoff valve. Even though it does use a fuel pump, the fuel is still above the carb bowls, and if you leave the valve open and the car sits for a few days, it will flood a cylinder or two with fuel. So if you're gravity feeding the carbs, I'd suggest using a petcock, either vacuum or manual, or a shut-off valve.
