grey oil

Is it really bad if my oil is grey. I changed the oil when i got the cart and it was grey. I have not even ride it around at all, it is grey again just from trying to get it running right.

What are storage conditions? grey oil indicates condensation or some other source of water getting in the oil.

Before i got the cart it was sitting outside, but now i keep it in a metal shed.

What is the climate in your area like? Its just condensation, springtime in temperate climates(floating around freezing) can do this. Nothing will stop it till the weather gets better or you keep the shed above freezing.

Grey oil could also mean blowby. That's what Tyler told me at least - breaking in my 5HP (the mod'd one), it was purty grey afterwards.

Oils can come out a variety of colours. It all depends on quite a few varables. As long as you dont have heavy metal deposits in your oil then I wouldnt worry.

Sounds like there was some water in the oil. You drained it, put in new oil, you should be in good shape.

If it makes you feel better, drive it a few hours/days and check the oil again. Tan, nearly clear oil will often darken, or become opaque with use. This is normal.

It has been pretty cold here lately, so i guess that would prolly be the problem. When i changed the oil, i felt it to make sure there was not any metal shavings in it and the was not. Now all i need to do is figure why it keeps on stalling out when i go to ride it. It will run fine when i have it up on the saw horses with no load on it.

If it idles well when the wheels are off the ground, will it still idle if you stop the wheels. If your clutch is wearing out or needs to be lubircated, then it will be engaging even at idle. The clutch needs to engage at approximately 2000+ RPM, allowing it to idle at between 700 (slow idle) and 1400 RPM (fast idle).

It will still idle fine when i have it sitting on the ground. It is very slow running and the engine will die after a couple of seconds of riding.

Its a air cooled 4 stroke briggs fun power engine not a liquid cooled 2 stroke Robin.

its definatley water in it, me and my friend had an old lawn mower and we put the hose down the oil filler when it was running, the the oil turned all grey

You're only supposed to trickle it while you hold the throttle plate open so it doesnt stall. Ghetto carbon cleaning.

I dont think he was trying to get rid of carbon. I think he was just screwing around with a old mower.
