Ive done it once err i havent my grandfather did for me. My grandfather has a freind by the name of jim white founder of white chassis who made many racing kart frames. I met with him yesterday and he suggested i move the spring and bypass the govenor. I thought that was strange considering he built and raced many industrial engines and i had thoughts of doing it just to see rpm increase should i listen to him or be safe. My coleman has never had a problem for the 3 years or so ive had it and my grandfather bypassed its govenor.

A bypassed governor is a bypassed governor. It has the same effect on the internals and could potentially blow up your engine.

As far as what Jim says, some people may say it's fine, but my opinion still stands the same that it's not worth the risk, and it's best to simply open the case and remove the governor gear.

Typically There is a few adjustment holes on the crook of the gov arm, that can be experimented with to get a few more rpms... but in the end it could weaken the gear and cause it to break...

Risk is a relative term...

If the motor blows up , what would you do? Is it easy and affordable for you to replace it?

Run it if you take responsibility for your actions, I dont care for the "But X Y Z told me it would be ok" stuff after something goes wrong, even if the chances are slim.

DELETE the governor, don't bypass it. Otherwise leave it alone.

That gear is only made of plastic, so when it spins fast enough it will come apart. And that arm, if it flops in the wrong direction at the wrong time, it will break the little oil scooper off of the rod. SO, like has been said, either delete it fully or leave it alone.
