jeep2003/porche930dude.... This is awesome man.

I follow all of your stuff, here and OMB. I don't post much over there... (not as much as I used to here either), but just wanted you to know I always watch, and am always stoked watching it all happen.

Looking forward to the test run video... I'm sure you are, too!

And the name H500x2 was born :lolgoku:

Wow.. that's a lot, are you sure?
I mean four rows of bolts per track, thats 125 holes per row,
assuming you need three tires to make one side of one track that's
122 brackets per track.

sounds a lot, assuming one track is just 8" wide that's 162 feet 8 inches of angle iron. or almost 50 meters (49.58)

with 1" x 1" x 1/4" angle iron that's 242 pounds (110 kg) of steel alone for the tracks,
not counting the 1000 nuts and bolts and washers nor the 488 small angle brackets.

IMPRESSIVE to say the least

theres 10 holes per cleat. 4 in the cleat 4 in the tire and 2 in the guides. so im counting the tire holes. and about 50 cleats per track. i havnt weighed the track yet but i will when its all done. i dont think its too heavy

I got the lower wheels done, the back axle widened, the engine drive pulley welded on, one of the drive cogs cut out, winch and tranny mounted and started on the framing on the front end. As you can see by the last sketch what im going to do with it. Around the tranny the front will stick out farther and the sides where the lights will be cut back more. just to give the front end some more style. should look really cool. Iv got to extend the winch crank so it comes up between the engine and tranny and itll have a removable crank handle on top. thats the best way i could figure to do it. its going well

FWIW, for those looking for belting for track fabrication, Tractor Supply Co. has some that comes in 15' x 10" (or 8, or 6). I'm contemplating doing a go-tank using it, or a mini-snowmobile... At least my local store does. I tried searching their online site and can't find it. When I'm back there again I'll grab the SKU and post it here.

Nice project build, btw.

I'm guessing that you are looking at stock belting for round balers; seeing as how I've got a large one that I'm basically going to have to rebuild from the ground up, I'm interested. That way, the double sided industrial belts that we tried in the machine will give me plenty of raw material for some form of tracked vehicle down the road...

:cheers2:   Pat

You can also look into the Chinese import/export sites. I found rubber tracks for a mini excavator or skid steer for about $100 each.

1st track is done and the second is well on its way. but yeah i wouldnt recommend building these things unless you love drilling holes or have a punch press that you can bang them out quick. its alot of work. i saw those strips at tsc seemed very expensive for the amount you get

i know this was just a week or so ago i saw them there. Just saying that if I were to buy the conveyer material im sure it could be found cheaper somewhere else. I have no regrets about using the tires so far

I'm hoping they work out well for you. One of my first concerns though, was that tires are designed to be round with only a small change in circumference. You are now going to be straightening them and then forcing them into tight radii and back. Add to the fact that IIRC- these are not new tires- so the rubber is not going to be as pliable as possible. However, I was impressed with the ingenuity of using them in the first place and am curious as to the outcome....

I'm a cronic repurposer myself. It's not like it would be as easy as grabbing the belts I have and throwing them in a box. They are about 16' long and 3' wide and an absolute pain to cut just to length not to mention width. But they were absolutely designed to travel flat and turn tight radii continually over a long period of time. They are a belted rubber compound about 5/16" thick.

Anyway- I thought your build was super cool and that I couldn't possibly find a better second life for one of these than that, soooo- if the tires don't work out, the offer still stands.

Besides- I have enough to build several tanks.....

Tyres are designed to flex just fine

Every time they rotate they go round flat and round again
At far higher rpm

The only thing stopping a large change in a tyre is the side wall
Which is gone
