A key way is typically milled on a milling machine, manual or cnc, also can be done on a lathe.
There are also keyway mills that clamp onto a shaft and have a motor and a rack for advancement. These tools are typically used for repairing or fixing machines or large parts that can't otherwise be moved onto a machine.

It can also be done with a good amount of patience and a dremal tool.

So I have to take it to a machine shop

Why not wait for the engine to arrive first, and see if it works.
Also to see if it will even work in the kart you have.

OK I will, it just how my brain works I like to picture everything in my head, and figure things out before it happens, and plus when I get the engine I already though out how I'm going to mount it, but I'll have and see, I can't wait

Ya I'm the same way...
Just look at my bike, it took me a year or so to figure out my jackshaft situation, and that was cause I didn't stop for a minute and think, let alone wait for all the parts.
Having the exact dimensions for physical size and all others, doesn't really substitute for the item in hand. That's an example, but the point remains.

I highly doubt a cetrrifugal clutch will handle that motor

:iagree: Even a racing clutch is only designed to handle a small amount of hp, nowhere near the almost 50hp that engine will put out.

Aside from the hp issue, can you even get a cent clutch to fit the shaft, given that it's probably 1 1/4" or larger..?

It only has around 38 horsepower
And I'm going to make it smaller

Obviously, you missed my point; do a search for a CC that can handle 40hp...

I wouldn't do that if I were you. PTO shafts are made a certain size for a reason; by reducing the diameter of a shaft, you reduce its breaking (or tensile) strength...

So what do you recommend I do

I will just say what everyone hasn't said to you yet....

"Get a different engine"

This particular one is going to cause you too many headaches, and trying to get a clutch that will even work is going to be a nightmare. Unless you have the original snowmobile clutch (or whatever it had), you are going to run into difficulties.

I know this is not what you want to hear. Sorry

I know I know, but I'll come up with more ideas when I get the engine, so I can think
