Hello
I have been looking around for awhile to see if someone has answered my question already but I have not found anything yet so I decided to make a post.

My Go-kart:
It is a manco 606 with a brand new HF predator 212 engine (Replaced an old Subaru Robin EX17 6.5 HP that needed a lot of work and I didn't have the resources for it.) The torque converter Drive pulley is a Comet 219552 that was on it when I bought the kart (It's about 8 years old) and it has a brand new 203589/5959 belt on it.

My Problem:
Right when I start my engine my torque converter drive pulley engages about half-way and my kart takes off.

What I need answered:
Is my drive pulley malfunctioning
Is my idle speed to high
What do I need to do?

Other:
I made this topic because all the ones i find are on centrifugal clutches

Please don't tell me to loosen or tighten my idle screw, I've taken it out and it still happens

IF YOU NEED PICTURES TELL ME!

Thanks

Thank you. We don't need pictures. Most guys are pretty good at guessing what's wrong without them. Pictures only confuse them, and make them cry.

On this new Predator engine, are you using the original lever system on top of the engine to hook your throttle cable to ? If so you need to loosing up the center pivot nut on the Predator engine throttle lever system.. .probably two or three rounds so it moves back and forth really easy. Let me see if I can find a pic.

Good Idea ! Do you think the engine swap some how made the belt tighter ? Does it sound like the engine is idling to high ? Throttle cable loose and not to tight ?

Pics might help ! Video of it running would be great .

The new belt came in today and the 212 is the only engine it has ran on, the throttle cable is fine nothing is wrong with it, and t6he engine sounds fine when idle, the drive pulley on the torque converter just engages about half way right when I turn it on

Clean you Torque Coverter I'd start there... 8 year's old there's definitely some rust and dirt built up.

Also your garter springs could be wore out too...

in which case your idle is too high (well above 1200 rpm.. closer to 1800 really)
or which is also a possibility.. your garter springs are worn out.

In which case you need to unhook them from the weights and check their length (be exact!)..
report back here and we'll tell you if they need replacement or not.

alright ill get back to you in a little bit, I ordered a new pulley on Wednesday thinking it might be the answer to my problem, and on terms of rust I have sanded it down and have made it all smooth.

Just grasping at straws here ...did you get a number off the old belt to order the new one ? What diameter is the rear pulley 6'' or 7'' ?

Can you shoot us a pic of the throttle set up ? If you took the Idle set screw all the way out and the throttle flap closed all the way the engine should have died .

This is a pic of the nut that needs to be loosened a couple of rounds sometimes three or four rounds, the screw in this pic is the throttle stop....just so we are on the same page. The long screw with the spring on it .

This is the Idle set screw the big black plastic screw on the top.

The springs get my vote. If you wanted to get really techie you could find a shaft tach to check your idle speed with.
