Go kart project twin engine 18hp 21ft/lbs Duromax

Okay so never built a kart. But I want some advice, I have a two seater crossfire frame and want to put two 18hp Duromaxs on it. What are some good ideas for sprocket sizes? I'm thinking 14t clutch and 39t dual sprockets. I want to go as fast as possible but understand my acceleration situation by wanting that. That's where the dual motor thing kicks in so I don't lose all my torque when choosing a 39t sprocket for top speed. The kart weighs I think 150-200. I weigh 165. I'm planning to do intake, exhaust, and take governors out of both engines. Just looking for some good ideas and opinions. Please no tongue lashing because I'm new.

Lol this is a pretty steep project. Might want to aim lower for first kart. Best advice I could give is invest in a helmet and get a Sugar Momma to pay for the project.

How did you choose 39T : 14T??? It gives an interesting top speed when approaching valve float RPMS lol

A single clutch or Torque Converter for an 18hp engine would be expensive, for two... fuhgettaboutit

Lol yes. Crazy fast is what I'm going after I want 70-80+. I want it to be a beast, so scary you're scared to put it to the floor. I want it to be the corvette of go karts. And money ain't an issue, go big or go broke

It's pretty sound advice to suggest starting with just one 18 hp motor for a first time kart. Once you've got it dialed in and think you need to double up, you will likely have learned enough in the process to figure it out.

But definitely put a helmet on the check list.

Definitely a helmet and 4pt harness. But yeah I thought about one motor but I decided to go all out and do two. I might have to weld a weighted plate in the front to keep the front tires on the ground. So with the setup I'm looking at building what are the top speed numbers, I've done the calculations and they seem a bit high... And centrifugal clutches for both motors instead of the converters should be fine right?

It isn't very common to put 2 big block motors in a kart, so you'll have to understand our advice here might be lacking, outside of safety recommendations. You'll need to use a #40/41 chain for those motors. The shafts are 1", so clutches will be a little tougher to find. How do you intend to synchronize the throttles? You'll need front and rear brakes with that much power/speed/weight, I think.

I'm gone try test it with rear brakes first maybe put two drum brakes. And yes I understand two big blocks is kinda wayyyy overkill but that's who I am. I understand safety but I'll be safe with the throttle trust me. Thanks for the help. I've got all my setup picked out I can send links if someone would like to see and suggest better

Ok heres the deal 39 tooth sprockets and 14 tooth clutches will NOT work.
It gives you a gear ratio of 2.78:1. You will just burn the clutch and Go now where. Not even an inch.
Imagine taking your current ride. Lets assume it is a 5 speed Manual 4 banger Ford Escort.
From a stop put it in 5th gear and try to Go.
You see what I mean It aint gonna happen.

I agree, however, two motors, is double the torque down low. It's one thing multiple engines are good for, it's why you see pulling tractors with 5 engines, but not drag racer's lol.

He can pull more gear, although that might be a bit steep, I would start around 3.5:1 myself.

Well ordinarily a ratio of 6:1 is recomended, which is where I came up with a ratio of 3.5:1 to start.

It's not an exact science exactly, but that's where I would start.

Unfortunately, you can't just gear for top speed, you have to have gearing you can pull, and you sir, are in mostly uncharted territory. So really anything we say is just a wild guess by and large.

If you set this up to accept 2 piece Axle sprockets. It will be much easier to change gears as you go.
Have you ever been anywhere near that fast on a go kart? Trust me 50mph 1.5inches off the ground will get your attention.
