So my honda gx200 6.5hp engine died on me it had governor removed upgraded springs upgraded airfilter and upgraded exhaust I'm thinking about buying a 13hp engine from harborfreight. I have a racing style go kart will it be to big for it? Will it be faster still if I leave it stock? Will I need a different clutch? Thanks all

It will not fit without modifications to the engine plate, and it depends on the size of the shaft on the engine if you're clutch will work or not

I can tell you right now, your existing clutch won't fit; a GX200 has a 3/4" shaft, any 13hp engine will have a 1" shaft...

Unless you change the gearing (which you will as soon as you replace the clutch) it won't have a higher top speed, it will just get there quicker...

What exactly do you mean by

So my honda gx200 6.5hp engine died

How dead is it?

I decided to just go with. 6.5hp from harborfreight

Idk it just stopped working I thought maybe water got into the gas so I replaced the gas and drained the carbs it Still didn't work so then I opened it up to check what the inside was like I ended up breaking one bolt so it's stuck in there I put it back together minus the bolt and put fresh oil in it and still nothing. Any ideas? I really like that engine

Drill out the broken bolt with a cobalt drill bit and heli-coil the threads, the kits are available at NAPA. Step 2, check for spark may just be something simple like a bad plug or broken wire. Step 3, disassemble and clean carburetor use a small soft piece of copper wire to poke through any holes in the jets and boil in lemon juice. Step 4 do a compression test with and without a teaspoon of motor oil in the cylinder. Report back after you have done all these things if it still will not start. :mad2:

I disagree.....shoot some carb cleaner in the carb and try to start it....if it runs for a second or two....it's your carb (or it's not getting fuel for some reason) ...if not....it's a spark issue...either timing or lack of.....

Don't jump on the heli-coil just yet!!!! Soak that sucker with PB Blaster...drill a small hole and try an ease-out...then a larger ease- out....then a larger...then finally drill just shy of the threads and try to pry/unscrew whats left...

Now....if you've managed to booger up whats left....you may be able to re-tap to the next larger npt bolt....(or even. metric)....

Now....this is assuming you have the tools to do so....if not....a helicoil kit is the way to go....but IIRC....they are proud of them....

But....first you gotta get it running!!!!

That could be why it died because you took the governor out of it and put better springs in it i bet your rod broke or exploded because its not floating the valves anymore its running all out at higher rpms then the rod can take . If it has not exploded into a billion little pieces yet then id suggest you figure out why its not working fix it and get a billet con rod .

Ok so I had most of the bolt you there was just a lil then layer in it so I put a harborfreight sound file in it to try and get it out and it broke in there so not that's stuck I tried drilling it out it didn't work so I drilled a lil to the side where the old bolt pieces are and it looks like it's fused together now :/

UPDATE: Where the shut off valve for the gas Is the lil bowl is stripped so I'm buying a new carb

UPDATE UPDATE : So I have taken it all apart and all the rods are straight I'm gonna work on taking the that bolt out now

Step #1: Drill the centre of the bolt; Centre punching the bolt will do 2 things, it will give you a drilling point & it may shack the bolt loose... after spraying it with PB Blaster...

Always use a left turning drill bit when drilling a broken bolt/stud. A lot of times just the counter clockwise friction from drill bit will spin the broken material out.

I am almost sure I found your non starting issue by looking at your pics. That rusty coil and flywheel will cause it to have erractic starting and no spark issues. You need to file where the coil meets the flywheel and all the way around the flywheel so its clean and rust free and a little shiny to it. You can use fine sandpaper or a soft wire brush to fix the issue.

Thanks joe I'll try it. I finally got the bolt out. Also it doesn't look like the coil really touches the flywheel

I have moved my pulse hole for the fuel pump to where the oil sensor used to be is that ok?

... Also it doesn't look like the coil really touches the flywheel

Not suppose to 'touch'... that would be anti-productive :lolgoku:. There 'should' be a slight 'gap'. Take loose the 2 bolts holding the coil in place. Take a normal business card, and slide it between the coil and the flywheel, release the coil to allow it to magnitize itself inplace. Tighten the 2 bolts... and slide out the card.

Im guessing youre talking bout the oil sensor wire hole... It's 'doable' however, that area gets ALOTTA oil traffic and that would have a REALLY good chance of slinging oil into your pump(which will 9/10 times prevent the pump from operating). The normal place(s) to pulse from are the valve cover and 'some' tap the hole of the governor arm (that was removed) and pulse from there... I personally would NEVER recommend tapping a hole in a block/case... valve covers are ALOT cheaper, if an  occurs.

Oil sensor won't work. Look at my pic for reference. I just drilled a hole slightly smaller than the fitting thread and screwed it in. Been running since last years contest and have never had a single issue with anything.

Will fix pic when I get home. But its from my okie barstool racer build
