So i picked up a Polaris 398cc engine and an off road go kart frame the other day. Me and my grandpa are going to rebuild it and make this puppy a runner. I don't know if the engine works so, help me out guys...

welcome here!

first thing i would do is check for compression and spark... if you got these then it should not be hard to get running. second : clean the hell out of the carbs using either carb cleaner or gasoline. then hook up gas and crank it!

good luck!

So the toher day i checked for compression, and that sucker pulls your finger in hard ahha. Spark is gone, and i think it is the igniton coil. Can someone link me to a site that has ignition coils, and other parts for this engine???

Ok model is:
I Know it is a Polaris 398cc Motor,(might be a 1970 Polaris Charger motor) might be bored out to 440 but dont know. Thats what the guy said.its a EC40P.
the engine is a two cylinder two stroke with a cooling fan built into the flywheel. It is rated 27 hp at 6,500 RPM. It has 2 Mikuni VM30 carburetors on it. is the oil mixed with the gasoline at a specified ratio of 20:1?? That's 1 US quart of 2 cycle sled oil mixed to five US gallons of regular gasoline right??. Spark plug is NGK B7ES gapped at .020"?

Anyone got any info to help me with parts?
And what gearing should i run to get a lot of low pull, but still hit like 55?
It is going to be an offroad kart, as i have like 15" tires on the back that are like 8" inches wide.

a 5:1 ratio would be good, that will give you a calculated top speed of 58 at 6.5k, not accounting for the torque converters overdrive (plus the engine might redline higher than 6.5k). As for gas oil mix, 20:1 seems like a thick mix, but if it runs fine on that then go for it, but you could get away with 32:1.
